Sony PVM-1342Q Color Purity Problem (Degauss?)

I have a Sony PVM-1342Q with color purity problems.

I ordered a manual degaussing coil to hopefully fix it.

Do you think the manual degaussing coil will fix the color problems or could it be something else?

That looks like a degaussing will help.  You make sure you don't have any magnets nearby?

the sony pvm i have ( 2130 an 2730 ) are known 2 be sensitive to magnetic fields when rotated or moved around.  i was never able to eliminate the discoloration 100 % when tated vertikal. find a good place for the monitor , disconnect the power cord and give it some starts and it may be fixed .  manual degaussing coil wont hurt anyway.

There are no magnets nearby and the pattern stayed the same even when I moved the monitor around the house.

The manual degauss coil was fixing the problem until . . . the degauss coil stopped working.

Most of the screen had cleared but when the degauss coil abruptly quit it left a new color purity problem in the top right corner.

I returned the degauss coil and am waiting for another one to arrive. At present the color problem is virtually gone it just needs more degaussing in the top right corner.

Manual degaussing may also help with tate mode color problems.

the prob with sonys isnt speaker or other magnets in range its the earths mag field. nec monitors like my 2960 are handling this a lot better than sony pvms. nevertheless i think the sony tubes are of the best money can buy if it comes to lowres classicgaming.

the manual degauss coils are only meant for a few seconds worth of use at a time... you've probably overheated it and burned the coil out.

it should be fitted with a temporary switch to energize the coil in short bursts...maybe only 3 seconds on 5 seconds off, at a time to an absolute maximum of 12 times.
if it still needs additional degaussing, wait 20 minutes till the coil cools.

don't forgrt your dumping 120 volts into a very low load coil. stuff gets hot real quick.

I got the replacement degaussing coil today.

This one is the GC 9317 recommend by Ken Layton.
It finished the job in one pass. Now the colors are all good.

@lilshawn   My previous coil was smaller and not as well built. I think it had a short in it somewhere as I could occasionally jiggle it back on.

What I do is stand about seven feet away from the screen with the coil parallel and centered. Press the button. Walk to within inches of the screen while moving the coil in a wax-on circle and then back away from the screen while doing the same circular motion. Once back in original spot release the button. About 10 seconds from press the button until release the button.
