Found an old 2600 box in the attic!
« on: May 13, 2010, 10:35:17 pm »
Been pretty busy and hadn't had time to check the forums lately, but thought I'd drop in to post this litle find buried under some insulation in my attic. too bad it was empty  ;)

fair to poor condition. Suprisingly well considering it's been in the attic all these years, but at least it's not all torn n stuff.
Wife had her cam, so I used my 13$ ebay camera for these quickie snapshots

So that's what the box looked like.
Played the system to death as a small child.

Yep. I remember clearly pressing my nose against the store window to look at all the games on that box and drooling over it !
It was like a holy grail to me. Took a while (and a price drop) 'till we (my brother and I) could get it.
That one is still at my parents' attic but I don't believe I still have the box....

With technology nowadays, I still find it funny they used the term "computer" to describe these things back then.   :D

Well, although it probably was mostly a marketing word, technically it is correct.

I think they may wanted to make it look different from the game system like the Oddesey that was just a bunch of analogue circuits.
Although this is now recognized as the first video game system, I still don't agree. It doesn't have any logic at all. It's just some dots and stripes on the screen produced by analogue stuff. That's not a video game IMHO, but then again who decides about the definition of a video game ?

as kids,we played a lot of pong,  but when this thing came out we went completely nuts, easily 10 to 15 kids at the house waiting to play a game of combat.
amazing how they have reduced the console and several games to the size of one controller.
I had kept it in perfect condition in the near perfect box for over 20 years before i sold it for change. :lol
