small dot middle of vector monitor
« on: May 12, 2010, 05:49:06 pm »
while messing with the poits on the rectifier/video board a diode happened to blow on the power supply.anyways,i repaired that and now the game plays blind.only prob is all i get is a small dot on the monitor.as far as i know the monitor is ok and so is the video board.it might just be that i twiddled the pots about.

i have done some twiddling but,i cant get it to go from the small dot to the pic i obviously need.

anyone?
:)

A. Do NOT leaving it on too long like that, it'll burn a dead spot into the screen if it already hasn't.
B. What make/model monitor ?
C. Is there an LED lit on the deflection board ?
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

this ios the problem,it has an hantarex monitor with a bootleg Stellar Castle DAC/sound board.it does not run the original rectifier board (if thats what it is) and the power supply isnt the original one.apparently that board is rare item.

all i can tell you is i had bad bounce on screen,i messed with the pots,i found horizontal and vertical ok but,i went and turned a pot and then poof something happened to the power supply when i powered the cab on,obviously i didnt turn the pot while it was turned on.i thought at first the error was due to the pot i turned,i kept adjusting it and every tijme i turned on i could smell burning and i got error from the game board.

i rthought at first it was the monitor that poofed,as the smell and smoke obviously rose in the cab so it smelled like it was the monitor,i chacked all the fuses on the monitor board, including a fuse where the ht lead was (it was in an enclosure) i checked the neck board also.

but,no change i still got the error.i plucked up the courage to power it on longer and look longer to see what was happening.i saw smaoke,i knew then where the prob was,the power supply.i checked it,i had blown a diode,i replaced it and unhooked the monitor bits,i didnt want to risk blowing something again, the cab turned on no probs no errors,i coined up a game and it plays blind.i tried to seek advice elsewhere but,as yyet i got no response.i plucked up the courage to hook the monitor bits to the game board and now all i get is the spot on the screen.

if i turn the monitor neck adjustment things (on the monitors neck) the spot gos,if i turn it back to near its original setting it returns.i turned the pots i turned before but, no go.i am wandering if its the fuses,if it was putting them in wrong way round as i know woith the monitor,if i pull out a fuse,if i insert it back wrong way round the monitor wont work,if i turn it the way it was it works,i mean that is weird???

i will try later turning the fuses in case that is the prob but,i think it might not be.i cant trouble shoot using star castle manual as the manual and the bits differ,i can show you the video board if you like.i will also check the connector on the video board some time today perhaps clean it.

thanks for responding
:)
