Custom Sideart for my Mame cabinet: Revision done thanks
« on: July 31, 2003, 01:52:10 pm »
Just thought I'd drop the side art that I created for my first mame cabinet. The original cabinet is a DK and I already have a DKJr Bezel and Marquee. SO I wanted to keep DKjr and incorporate other games as well.

I like it but I need to get it printed still and this is a low quality image I posted.

Appreciate any thoughts, ideas.

Thanks, Tom

Don't take this the wrong way. I know you want the DK to be the center of attention but it looks like you took DK sideart and stuck other stuff all over it. I would consider using DK artwork as the focus, but not the original sideart. Looks like conversion hack job like when someone tries to convert one machine but doesn't bother to remove traces of the old machine underneath. I would replace the sideart with a big DK.

Also it looks like you got images from all sorts of different places using conflicting styles. The piece has balanced placement, but not balanced styles. Know what I mean?

I see what you are saying. I did gather the art from all kinds of places and I could probably change their styles. I had a heck of a time finding real good images and am so thankful for the links off here.

I see your perspective on the sideart. Are you proposing using other DK images and keep them large but not a side art representation? That would throw off my outer border however since it is very similar in shape. Know of any good DK images you would use in it's place.

Thanks for the constructive crit.

Well there are some outer space beings in the image for them to fight 8)

I have been looking and the only other things I'm finding are the flyer which can be modified and the DK 3d animation series.

Bryan, what are your thoughts. I kinda liked it, but I've never done side art before.

Well Vector library has some newly-added DK artwork. Don't know the address offhand, though.

Thanks and Thanks again. Mametrix is having problems with their script it appears. I will look for vector art. I kind of like this image as well for a focal point. What are your thoughts.I will also find the vector art.

Well when the library is actually up I think it's got a picture of that DK. I think he would look cool by himself. Of course, this is all opinion, and no one is going to be "correct".

I definately like the art from that flyer. However your original is fine. It only has to please one person right? I like it personally.

OK, I've done a rough of the other version and actually I like it. The scene lends itself to chaos and most of the images reflect that. I will clean it up at home with my tablet and play colorforms moving stuff around. I like how the girders lead your eye into the image. Let me know which you like best if you have a sec.

Thanks everyone.

Thankyou. OK thanks to your critics. I made changes and now really like what I have here. If anyone would like it I'd be glad to share. I also have the PSD with layers if you want to move stuff, add remove to customize.

I really appreciate the tips. ;D
