star castle monitor
« on: May 11, 2010, 05:35:45 pm »
just bare with me and i will try to explain it simply.

i bought a star castle cab,it is an hybrid (thats what i will call it) as someone used different bits for the internals.

the deflector board (or whatever its called) with the pots for adjusting the monitor is a bootleg Stellar Castle sound board with integral monitor DACs.

well i turned a pot on the board, either the x or y size pot i can post a pic of the pot if you like, well i did this while the cab was powered off, well when i repowered the cab on,i got error sound throgh speakers and i knew i should turn off.i did, when i went to the cab i smelt burning.any way,i thought it must be that pot,so i turned it back to where i thought it was, same thing on powering up,smell of burning.

anyway,it looks like it blew the power supply,i saw smoke coming off it,the resistor (whatever its called,i aint a electronic tech) has blown, its split and the track on the under side lifted.

i intend to replace the part on the power supply the track is still intact although lifted.

is there any precautions i should take before powering on,i will repair the power supply but, what if the pot as its set now makes the power supply blow again?

why would this happen.

i will post a link to the place i had a topic going but, they are not very helpfull, they provide some info but, they are not helping at all.i think there are more people here who can put me right with the correct info and the way to tackle the prob.

heres a link to the topic and pics also.
hxxp://www.jammaplus.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=19279&PN=2&title=star-castle-restore

so i will replace the part that has blown,i can give pics if you want.

how would i go about powering the cab up again considering i adjusted the pot in question and i also moved the other to the right of the one thats highlighted,is there a setting minimum to have it at,then tweak it up?

any monitor experts can help please?

thanks.
 :)

thanks to people over at j+ i managed to fix a blown diode on the power supply.i am getting to play the game blind but,i dare not have the deflector/rectifier board plugged in as i was messing with pots on it and that is what i was doing when the diode blew.so i am seeking advice about the best way to approach it and i will go with the best advice given at j+
