Tabletop Jamma Cab
« on: May 11, 2010, 01:25:23 pm »
I have a working JAMMA system from another project, but am very limited on space. So, I was thinking of making a very small JAMMA tabletop cab (I don't have a bar ;D).

It sounds like the area for the board would need to be at least 12x16x6. I was thinking of putting the board at the very bottom of the cab, which in essence would give me a minimum of a 13.5 x 17.5 footprint if I use 3/4 MDF.

I am debating what monitor to use. I have a leftover Wells Gardner 19" monitor that I would like to use (since it's free), but that would add to the footprint. Alternatively, I could pick up a cheap LCD from CL or eBay.

I've looked around for ideas, but haven't seen any similar projects. Any insight or comments are appreciated. This is definitely in the concept phase (although I would like to get rid of the box of wires and monitor from my workbench ASAP!)

I was thinking of a Neo Geo theme, but there are a ton of Neo Geo mini's out there.

Using an arcade jamma board will probably preclude your use of an LCD as they do not sync at arcade freq.   If you are using jamma with an all in one board then you can get away with using an LCD as they have a vga output as well as arcade monitor.

I was going to use one of these:

Of course, that would add to my cost as well. Plus, the fact that using an LCD will make it less authentic.

My concerns with the 19" Wells Gardner were mainly reliability since it is likely 20 years old, the fact the picture has a few lines on the side (which may go away), some mild burn-in (not noticeable when on), and finally the size and weight since I am trying to make this as small as possible.

if you plan to use one of those 60 to 1 classics jamma boards they have also vga output connector and also can take atx psu eg. just use jamma for the controls :)

so should look best with 4:3 LCD vga
