Hey everyone.

I am in need of some help.

I currently have an old Williams cabinet (robotron 2049). Here are some images:

As you can see, the monitor is on it's way out and there are a TON of scratches on the tube itself (not the plexi):

I just ordered the Killer Edition Jamma Board from Tim and it only outputs to the arcade monitor or to VGA.

So my question is:

1. Do I go with a 19" LCD monitor that is 16:10 or spend almost $400 for a 20" Dell or HP 4:3

2. Or do I put in a used 21" Trinitron VGA monitor from Craigslist.

3. Or CAN I somehow convert the vga output to component (not composite or S video) and still have good quality?

Thanks in advance!

Also, I have tried a degaussing rod with no effect. Someone recommended I demag the monitor by discharging it like this:

Here is a picture of the monitor.

Also here is the monitor I got for $25:

no. all your doing is getting rid of the charge in the tube that it uses to operate... you need to do something about the magnetism. google "manually degauss monitor" for a plethora of info on this subject and various was to do it.

your monitor otherwise looks great. (good color, focus is great , not dim or washed out. the screen could be turned up a tad....)

you could...but if the existing one is still good....

the answer is:

short answer: no.

long answer: not without some expensive electronics...or allot of knowledge to build it.

Thanks for the info! I decided to go with the 21" Sony Trinitron. Looks awesome running my Dreamcast through VGA.

I started a thread on mounting and supporting it here:
