Oh the headaches! Need help with versions...
« on: May 04, 2010, 12:52:02 pm »
So I have a cocktail cabinet, and I have been able to get ArcadeOS on there as well as Advmame using Fraggals Boot CD. The only feature I was missing that I was looking for was high score saving. I added the hiscore.dat file and the 'hi' folder, but nothing happened. My first thought was, perhaps I don't have the current version of Advmame (Fraggals says it install 6.2.2, but Advmame website says newest is .106?? confusing). So I simply copied over the new mame files into the c:\mame folder. Now when ArcadeOS loads, I see nothing. So I'm assuming something with the new version of Advmame changed a setting somewhere.

I guess I've just become frustrated with balancing all these different versions and whatnot, all for the leisure of having hi scores auto saved.

If anyone knows an easier way to do it, or sees what mistake im making, I'd really appreciate some pointers.

All I want is a handful of games, hi scores, and vertical arcade monitor support.

Thanks!

IT does seem that hi scores (not hi-to-text) is not built in ..  at least officially.
that despite the fact that my own mame download was via official site.

But it seems that other than hi-to-text that hiscore stuff can be added with a re-compile.
with hi-to-text im not sure, only because i didnt want hiscores presented that way outside of the game.

to me full emulation includes the internal use of the hiscores...and not some kludgy way.
Since regular mame seems to work fine with the socalled hacks I could care less about whether its official.
Reality is once I get hiscores working as is, I will likley never upgrade mame or HS ever again.
Too much trouble to bother with.

Especially since I wen trhu and got 700 of the games in current mame version and will not waste time getting any other roms till i review what games im missing if at all.
As it is, expectation is that more than 70% of the nonworking roms in my case are not worth the effort.

at it is, the 700+ games i got working at least 10% or so are not worth playing or are too similar to others to continue.   I figure on ending up with 500+ games when done.
