GameEx is AWESOME!
« on: May 02, 2010, 08:34:51 pm »
HEy guys, I have finally got my NeoGeo set to work with MAME and GAMEX.  Now in the list of games through the FE, the NES, SNES, Genesis roms list fine and have cool descriptions...  but the MAME one just lists the games as there short file name  ie mslug instead of Metal Slug and no desription.  What do I need to do so the games will list in their full names?  Do I need to use RomLister or something like that?

Im guessing you mean GameEx.

You can make what's called a .map file, which translates the short 8.3 name into whatever you want. All you have to do is open an existing .map file in notepad for reference. From memory, I think it's something like:

Quote
mslug|Metal Slug 1

Once you're done, you just go into the MAME settings, and look for the option to use a map file, point to the one you created and you should be good to go. Just remember to update it if you ever add in any additional ROMs

Thank you for your help, i was fooling with gameex and I guess I did something right cuz it did it on its own when I hit enter.

Is there a theme that will show box art, video, etc as I scroll through a game list?  Kinda like MA?

I'll double check when I get home - I want to say yes, it's in the MAME settings, but I'm not 100% sure.

Most all of the themes I've tried will show cabinets, marquees, fliers, etc.  You just need to set the file paths in the configuration and GameEx will start using them automatically.

SammyWI is right.  In the MAME options, there are path files you can config.

Has anyone used GameEx with NetFlix and joysticks and buttons?  It would be awesome to get some sort of Netflix capability on it.

Man GameEx is awesome.  I got all the AviSnaps, Title Art, etc and it is great!

Is there anyway to have GameEx load up to a game initially then you could hit escape to get into the menu but the initial startup goes into a game, Im thinking of using MK3 art and if I could have it boot to MK3 then that would be awesome.
