WG D9800 problem

Hey all,

Looks like I have a resistor that failed (R623 glowing brightly).  Unfortunately, it also burned through some of the focus wire's insulation.  While I'm not overly concerned (and I'm seeing what the warranty deal is with WG as I just bought this in Jan), I am wondering, outside of changing out the failed resistor, is there anything else I should be concerned about?  I'm going to check the schematic, but this failure didn't even allow the monitor to power on.

without looking at a schematic, the reason the resistor is glowing is because whatever is connected to it is damaged (likely shorted), causing an excess of current to flow through it.

you are going to have to check downstream from that resistor and find your component. (likely a shorted FET or transistor.)

Focus line has reasonably high voltage on it, usually in the neighborhood of 5kV.  It's not something you want floating around uninsulated.  If the damage to the insulation is minor, you can possibly just wrap some quality electrical tape around it and call it good, but otherwise you should probably look into replacing the flyback in order to get a non-damaged focus lead.

Thanks guys.  The good news is it's still under warranty.  The bad news is there isn't a schematic online for the monitor.  I couldn't even find the resistor on the older version's schematic. 

Now to find out what I need to do to get this fixed from WG.
