Laying out a custom control panel
« on: July 30, 2003, 11:51:05 am »
Hello all , working with an experienced cabinet guy this weekend on my first cab. I have a question regarding the control panel.

Do most of you print on your own with large photo paper and actually apply it around the controls?

DO you mount the image right on say partical board and say put lexan on top of that and the drill your control holes through everything?

Ive heard some folks mention printing right on the lexan.

Thanks for your help.

Tom

Tom,

Most print the art out at Kinko's or an online service such as EMDKAY. Lay it on the control panel after the holes are drilled and then overlay it with precut and drilled Lexan. Since We haven't come up with a concrete layout for your panel yet (I'm the "experienced" guy he was talking about) We will have to do it a bit different. Since I'm 3 hours away I'll teach you enough to be able to remove the controls and lexan after the fact and install you artwork. Other wise I would have to get you the panel, let you create the art work, and then make a second trip to install the controls and wire them up.

Sorry I hadn't made this clear in our emails.

Printing on Lexan can be done I believe but I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap.

Thanks to the experienced guy. ;D  I am trying to get as much of the art part done while I can. SInce that unfortunately is the only thing I'm good at at this point. I have been grabbing all kinds of graphics and EMDkay regarding the side art. I will do the control panel with him too I'm sure. I've also been messing with the MAMEWAH front end but am unsure how to actually change the MAMEWAH background only the other files, but I am dissecting that now.

Thanks to the Experienced guy and you probably did explain it correct before ,but I didn't get it. Thanks for clarifying.
