WG K7000 + ArcadeVGA + J-Pac Help!
« on: April 23, 2010, 09:52:49 am »
I bought a Golden Axe cab. Apparently Golden Axe was only a conversion, so I have no idea what this cab was originally. The monitor is, I THINK, a WG K7000. The markings I can see on it are: Philips ECG, Inc., MV   A48ABK05X, EIA 312 . The board has “P447” screened on it in the center. I also bought an ArcadeVGA card (AGP) and a J-Pac from Ultimarc. The ArcadeVGA card works fine with my LCD monitor on the DVI output. I have the resolution set to 640x480. When I hook it all together to my cab, I get a picture that is obviously my desktop, but the monitor has a high-pitched whine, and the picture is rolling vertically pretty fast.

So how do I resolve this? Adjust the vertical hold? What is the optimum resolution to use in Windows?

I am trying to run a Mame cab on this monitor. Will this monitor work ok? I am just wondering that if I have to adjust the monitor settings to get Windows to show up ok, when I attempt to run Golden Axe in native resolution, will it look different? I want to run all games in their native resolutions where possible, but I am wondering if the monitor then needs to be adjusted everytime I fire up a different game. Like if I run Golden Axe and adjust it to look good, and then run Pac-Man, will it be screwed up and I have to make adjustments to the monitor again?

Thanks for any and all advice!

does the j-pac show all green lights? (that's when its booted fine and passes along the signal)

did you read this?

http://ultimarc.com/jpac2.html

No vertical Sync: No power to J-PAC. ensure the keyboard cable is connected to the PC.

Best resolution is 640x480 I for interlaced

also when you read the jpac faq you see how to setup mame to run best with your arcadevga

i wouldn't run it this way very long, it's REALLY stressful on various components, you'll blow something for sure.

high pitched whine means something is trying to sync at too high or an improper a frequency. things tend to run real hot, real quick at this point.

obviously windows wasn't designed to run at 15k, so if you can see what your doing (try turning on large fonts) your about as good as it gets. remember your trying to cram a 640x480 picture onto a 320x200 monitor.
