Nieman 25" Tri Mode = a good option for mame cab?
« on: April 22, 2010, 09:20:07 am »
I am looking at a 24.8" Nieman Tri Mode monitor for my curent mame set up which I have connected via JAMMA/Jpac to my broken WG. Is this Nieman a good choice for mame if I just were to say leave it in VGA? Also I have an Arcade VGA which I was using with the WG, would that be a good choice for this monitor and would the setup be best, or should I scrap the jamma/jpac and use my ipac and nvidia 8800 GTX that I have laying around?

this monitor will run 640x480 just fine. i would just run the nvidia directly. the 25 is alright, but the 27 is so much....bigger. if it's not cost/size prohibitive, i would up to the bigger one. IMO bigger is better but thats just me. the 25/27 use the same/similar chassis.

the monitors are generally reliable, and Rick Nieman trolls these boards occasionally, so if you need help fixing it he's really good that way.

ya I'm gonna' go meet with Rick on Tues to see the monitors for myself and pick one up. My problem is that my cab is fitted with a 25" now...will the 27" fit with the mounting brackets that the Midway cabs use? I just want to be able to pop it right in without any modification. The 27" would actually be preferred because it uses a curved CRT so I can use my existing bezel, but if it's going to require cab mods to fit properly then I won't bother.

you used to be able to switch around the mounting brackets to fit a 25/27 but i'm not sure about your cab.

it would (read: could) be as simple as knocking off the studs from the brackets and drilling new holes and using some bolts...but, results can vary.

You might have to notch the brackets as well if you're using a 27". Rick is a great guy and will bend over backwards for ya. He's a wealth of knowledge and and will answer all your questions.
