Magnets near an arcade monitor (Hantarex Polo 2)
« on: April 21, 2010, 05:01:02 pm »
Hi

The base of my CP needs to either hinge or be removable somehow. One option I thought of would be to use 4 + 4 magnets.

The nearest to the CRT - the 2 rear ones- is 235mm @ 9.25".

Just shopping around and interference aside these would fit my requirements.

Will they mess up the picture/cause damage?

Thanks

I use two similar disks to hold the front access panel to my cocktail cab on.  They are probably about 4-5 inches away from the monitor at a steep diagonal.

They DO affect the monitor such that colors are skewed at the two corners.  For me, a couple of carefully placed weaker magnets on the shielding counteracted that effect nicely.

i would avoid magnets.

if it needs to be easily removable, it really depends on the design of the cabinet, but if there is wood at the back by the monitor then i would carve a slot in the wood to put the back portion of the control panel into then use the magnets in the front area to hold it down.

inserting the panel would be something like:

hold the panel at a 45 degree angle and insert the top portion into the slot

rotate the panel down until the magnets catch to hold into place.

but it really depends on the cabs original design.
