Sanyo EZV19 sometimes cuts out
« on: April 20, 2010, 03:00:32 pm »
Mame 135, winxp, jpac and Sanyo EZV19 etc etc Sometimes when i pick a game i have never played before, or something random the screen pops and goes dark with a slight glow in the middle that fades.  First time it happend i almost lost it, but it was ok....I then have to turn off the monitor wait a few/20 seconds and then turn power to the monitor back on, but not to the game that it was on.  I am using the embedded FE in Mame so when the monitor cuts out I press exit on the keyboard, then i type Donkey, which will bring up donkey kong i then press enter to run the game all in the dark,  then plug the monitor back in and into the PC again and then the monitor will come back on.  This has got to do with a resolution this monitor doesn't like.  How do I know what is going to blow this monitor or cause this to happen?   Also right acroos the room i have Sharp XM 2001n, which is kinda similar, and that never never happens.  I'm concerned that one time it is not going to come back to life, and I would love to know a specific resolution or games to avoid...and I am sorry but i can't remeber a game this happens on, they are usually newer or obscure and I don't want ot go out of my way to reproduce this incase it is damaging to the monitor

When was this monitor last capped?  Have you checked the B+ voltage?

IIRC if the sync goes out of range it can go into shutdown.

To my knowledge it has never been capped,  i have not and don't know how to check b-voltage,  what would cause the sync to go out of range?  it def could use a cap kit,  there are times it gets wavey,  but it consistentley goes out on the same games, and never cuts out on say Donkey Kong, was wondering what about a particular game would do that to this monitor, then i could avoid those games until i am ready to break down and recap this thing, right now i just want to ride out the good times,  lookin for the quick fix i'll admit it.....but thats becasue of all the projects this one is the least of a worry meaning it works some of the time, i have two other cabs to finish on the other side of the room,

The sync goes out because a certain game has a different range than another one, out of spec for the monitor, and it shuts down to protect itself.

CAP THE MONITOR.

There are guides to show you where to check your B+, but if you're not familiar with doing this sort of operation I'd recommend you let a pro do it for you.

I still haven't capped this monitor but i havenoticed that while in a game like DK it stays on no problem, when i go to mala or gamelauncher it cuts out, never on windows and never in a game, only in those frontends.   Gamelauncher lasts longer than mala, mala is really short and then it cuts out.  Could this still be caps?  Whay would it stay on during a game?

you should notice that when you go from a game that is mostly BLACK (IE DK) to something being displayed that is mostly WHITE (FRONTEND), it strains on the monitor components... if the caps are weak, it will cause all sorts of issues when the additional load of having a completely white screen is displayed.

Ok so i capped it, also recieved a huge shock when screwing around with the anode cap....anyway re-capped with the Bob roberts EZ20 extra kit and i was gettingfuzzy lines crazy all over and then it would cut out when i made any adjustment.  now nothing, i can hear what i think is the flyback start to go on then nothing no picture.  the anode cap seems to be on there very good but could this be related to a badley seated anode cap, what else could this be?  Im afraid to touch the anode cap for obvious reasons.

DO make sure that the anode cap is properly seated.  Use the discharge tool to first discharge, then nudge the clips into place.

DO check your B+ and make sure it's ~108VDC.  If it's much higher or much lower that generally indicates another issue.

That wouldn't make a difference with the voltage, but will make a difference if it decides to pop off.  :)

You actually were able to dial down the B+ from 150VDC to 108?  How close is close?

you know i dug out a digital meter from my old tech days and got that sucker to 108.4, and i left it there....is that close enough...what do you like?   Also when I got shocked from an arch off the anode cap I thought I was  gonner, took a long walk aroudn the house and waited for a heart-attack that never happend,  then about five minutes later got right back in there poking around like nothing happend,  The monitor looks unbeilievable and i can't wait to cap my other mons, its not that big of a deal after all.   I just don't know why my pc started putting out dim washed out pooop, but thats a PC problem and i don't worry about that crap, i'll start over or just replace the tower, it was working at one time but who the F knows, just happy the monitor it working,  i connected the suspect pc to another arcade mon i know is good and the same dim washed out crap, then hooked the capped mon to a pc o know is good and crisp nice picture.

No no, 108.4 is fine.  I was thinking you got it to 120 or whatever and said good enough.

Dim picture can be caused when you don't use a video amp.  If it was good before and isn't now....hmmmm...might need some adjusting.  EZ has like three different brightness controls.
