No color emission = dead gun?
« on: April 13, 2010, 06:14:38 pm »
I am working on a 19" Kortek monitor. Quite frankly, this thing's a piece of crap. Quality aside, this monitor was brought in to me because it was only displaying red. I checked the driver transistors, tried replacing them, no luck. I also replaced a couple of ICs, no luck there either.

I also checked all the obvious, including the wiring and connectors, no broken solder joints there...

As a last resort, I hooked up the rejuvinator and checked all of the colors. I was able to rejuvinate the red and blue gun, so now we have a nice clear picture that is still missing green. The emission life test on the rejuvinator shows that after rejuvination, red and blue have a 12 month or longer life left in them. The emission life test for green, however shows that there is no emission. Since I can't find anything wrong on the chassis, I think the green gun is dead.

Is a dead gun fixable? My rejuvinator won't let me "shoot" this gun. It says it has no emission.

Sounds like it's time to start looking for 19" TVs for a tube swap.

Sounds to me like your green gun went open on you.
Not all rejuvenators are the same... you do get what you pay for with these.
I swear by the Sencore cr7000...

you could do a gun hack to see if the green is alive at all..

while the monitor is on, quickly hit the green gun pin on the neckboard to ground to see if you get any green action.
ground one of your jumper to the monitor frame. if the green gun exists, your should get a green raster.
if you dont, you know for sure your green gun is shot..

if you do get green, drive problem with the chassis.
good luck!
