There are plenty of ways to update without killing a softmod.

For people with a PS3...

After having the 360 be my go to for all my Netflix needs the last couple of years, there has definitely been a changing of the guard.

You no longer need a disc for Netflix on PS3 either, and it is now the best option for Netflix streaming, offering up 1080 and Dolby Digital 5.1.

I'm also using Netflix on the PS3. It works fast and I have yet to have any problems

And to those who suspected it would kill my softmod - BINGO.   For those of you that don't know, it took me several months and a bricke Wii to get EVERYTHING the way I wanted it on my softmodded Wii.  Think I'm gonna undo that with an update right now? No way. Everything plays, by the way, so why the heck should I update and screw it all up?

Plus the fact, turning the Wii completely on and off loses that error message anyway, so who cares?

Just download the .wad I mentioned and install it.  No update to the Wii needed.

 :P

Yep. I just went to one of my torrent sites and downloaded it. Installed fine, works great.
