Control Layout Comments
« on: April 11, 2010, 09:31:52 am »
I am building a Bartop cabinet and took this thread as my strting point http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=87518.0

However I wanted to have more controls and a slightly different layout so come up with this:

What do people think or can anybody give any advice on what they would change etc.

What's your cabinet width?  That might be too tight for a bartop.

Your 1P and 2P buttons might be mislabeled.  If you have a single 'Insert Coin' button, then you don't need 'Credit' buttons.  Perhaps you want to call them '1P Start' and '2P Start'.  If so, I'd move the labels below the buttons, into the black of the road, so that they are more legible.  Better yet, I'd drop the 1P Start and 2P Start labels altogether.  The symbols on the buttons speak for themselves.

To me, the graphic is a little too empty and 'comicy'.  I have no experience whatsoever with regard to graphics, but if there's anyway possible to get a photo quality (screen capture or something?), I think it could look better.  I do think your fire is an improvement over your 'starting point'.

I'm also not a fan of the mixed style of buttons.  I'd stick with concave.

Good luck...looks like a fun project!

I have increased the width from the standard bartop to 500mmand have printed a mockup to test the spacing and all seems fine.  Everything on that image is to scale.
