Sanyo EZ 19" help
« on: April 09, 2010, 11:25:51 am »
There's one of these for sale locally, but the seller said it's only showing "primarily red" and that I should start by checking/replacing the pots. Does this sound like something that can be repaired? I'm pretty confident I could do the repairs myself, but I'd hate to buy it and find out it's a bad tube. Thanks.

likely the red transistor has shorted out. if you can take a look at the tube powered up and running. see if the other colors are there too

Just by giving a monitor a once over, what would make it clearly evident that there are problems with the tube itself?

no picture?

seriously, if there is a picture, and looking at the phosphor dots you can see that the green and blue are indeed lighting up (IE the other colors are operating too) you have a good start, and its usually easy to fix.

very likely: a shorted transistor causing the red to be turned on all the time.
likely: there is a badly adjusted pot
less likely: video amp chip issue
even less likely: shorted tube

If you unable to tweak it out to a good voltage and your b+ are 108 / 110vdc then you’re going to need tube gun rejuvenation.
These tubes do rejuvenate very well.
Not all rejuvenators are the same you do get what you pay for.
I do swear by the Sencore cr7000.
