Opinions: Remove Paint from Plexi (Solved)
« on: April 06, 2010, 06:36:40 pm »
Greetings, I need some opinions before undertaking a small tweak on my arcade...
I currently have a sheet of Plexiglass that I will be using as a Monitor Bezel. What I have done is mask off the area in the center that the image will be displayed through, and the remaining area I have sprayed black with Glossy. The black looks great from the outside, however the small edge where the tape was, is a bit unsightly. Its the usual problem where the edge that was masked gets a little paint under the edge, creating a rough look.

Before I break out the paint-thinner, what would the best way to remove the excess paint along the inside edge of the plexi, but keep the existing paint where it belongs? :dizzy: Obviously without scratching the plexi, and without removing the paint I want to keep as the bezel.

I have tried toothpaste and a finger (as per a video I found via google), and it did not work (nor did it scratch ).

Opinions?

Ok, so I worked up the courage to try something a bit more potent...
My fiance suggested I try some Ammonia (Nail-Polish remover) before I move on to Paint Thinner, and I'm glad she did. :notworthy:
A few Q-Tips and a steady hand were all I needed to change a rough edge into a decent straight-line. Its a vast improvement over what I had before, and it will surely do the job now. Other than a few finger marks, the Plexiglass is completely undamaged.

I've posted here for anyone else with a similar situation.
Good luck.
