Trip the Lightgun Fantastic
« on: March 30, 2010, 10:42:24 pm »
Everything lightgun console. I recently put together a set up. A 20 inch flat CRT tv, 2
guncons, 2 guncon 2's, original red Konami Justifier, Konami green Justifier, and slim PS2.

I picked up some games to go with:

Ninja Assault
Time Crisis 2
Time Crisis 3
Crisis Zone
Point Blank 3
Lethal Enforcers I & II
Crypt Killer
Elemental Gearbolt
Vampire Nights
Dino Stalkers
Resident Evil Dead Aim

Some of the stuff I had, some I got off of e-bay and amazon.

I got questions.

1. Any suggestions on gun games you think I might have overlooked that are good?

2.Guncon games can or can not support s-video? No need for the s-video cable if it is not
supporting it. I have an all in one cable that has both connections. I am guessing even
though I have both plugged in that it does not support picture through s-video and gun
tracking through standard av.

3. How good are Wii gun games? Accurate? Fun?

4. How good was the most recent Time Crisis? Gun accuracy? Any guncon 3 games in the future?

5. How rare is the original Konami red justifier?

6. Anyone have the Silent Scope set up and if so your opinions?

7. Any reason I should get Point Blank 1 and 2? Thought I read somewhere 3 collects all the minigames from the first 2.

Anything gun game related post it here if you like.

You're missing Ninja Assault from the North American line of PS2 rail shooters.  Also you can get Area 51 on PS1 which is a must have and Point Blank 1 and 2 of course.

The Guncon does support S-Video.  Most S-Video/Composite combo cables output video on BOTH simultaniously.  They only use the video signal for the sync signal and the sync is identical through both composite and s-video.  So connect the guns to the composite outputs and connect the S-Video to the TV itself.  It also supports component video, you just have to use the green cable for sync and not any of the others.

Finally, Silent Scope is NOT a light gun game and I've never seen a light gun replicate it's controls.  They mostly try to use the light gun as joystick input, which isn't so hot for the way Silent Scope works.  Really it's not even CLOSE to the same experiance.

Thanks I forgot to add Ninja Assault. I have it, sweet game. Left out End Game as a game to pick up heard it was generic. Area 51 I thought I read has no gun support. If it does I will definitely get that one. Any idea if point blank 1 and 2 minigames collected in 3? No use buying 1 and 2 if this is true.

Area 51 doesn't support the Guncon 1 as it predates it but it does support the Konami Justifier and any 3rd party guns with 'Normal' mode.  (Why the Justifier is called 'Normal' on every 3rd party multi-protocol gun, I have NO idea).  The spiritual successor Maximum Force however supports both Guncon and Justifier.  Shame that neither support the MEMORY CARD so you can't save high scores after you reboot.

All the Point Blank games are good in my experience, each has different games from the next but are all the 'same game' at the same time.  If you like one you'll like any of the others.

And yeah, Endgame I got it for like $10, it's a generic feeling Time Crisis clone.  All the same game mechanics yet fails to feel 'awesome' like a Time Crisis game does.

If you're in Europe you can get Ghoul Panic which is a Namco arcade mini-game shooter that will feel VERY similar to the Point Blank series, only it uses 3D graphics instead of 2D graphics.  The catch is it was only released in Japan and Europe, so if you're in North America you're boned.  I played the Japanese version on a modded NTSC-UC PS1, great fun, just a shame I have no idea what any of the menus say. :(

So I am going to pick up Area 51 and Maximum Force. To bad I do not have the set up to play other regions. I think I have heard of Ghoul Panic before also would be nice to have the Point Blank Collection to bad it is JP also.

I don't find Maximum Force all that remarkable.  Area 51, that's an icon of arcade shooters of the 90s, Maximum Force I got cause I bumped into it at a used games store. :)

Though unlike you, I've never had any luck finding the Lethal Enforcers games. :(

None of those are on the PlayStation platform he's using, Except Virtua Cop, there was a Japanese release of both on one disc called 'Virtua Cop Rebirth' but it never made it to North America.

I am also interested in DC games thinking about picking up a pair of interact guns and HOTD 2 and Confidential Mission. How good are interact guns?

I am having trouble with the interact blaster and HOTD 2. Does it work for this game? 1 issue is the regular trigger does nothing the forward trigger fires. I looked in gun options none to change the trigger. Also I am getting issues during calibration left upper corner shot registered fine bottom right corner shot will not register. I am thinking my 20 inch may have an issue with its picture. Will try the 27 inch to see. And ideas or answers will be greatly appreciated.
