contact paper question(?)
« on: July 28, 2003, 09:30:58 pm »
what is the general feeling about using clear contact paper on the cab? i want to use sideart and keep it from grubby hands, but dont really wanna go Snaaake and use plexi. i was reading something emdkay had on the website, and it said use clear contact paper. ready for suggestions.

on a related note: in deep embarressment, i realized i dunno how to tell if an image is high enough resolution to use on sideart. how do you tell when you are viewing said image in internet explorer?

god that makes me feel stupid...

clear contact paper does the trick BUT I wont use it for my own panel(just me).
how about lexan ?
very easy to drill and its just like plexi glass(only better).
Here is a picture of  a panel with clear contact paper.
again, its very reasonable and my friend was VERY happy with the stick.

Well my personal experience with contact paper is that the surface has a sort of a "grip". It's tough but it might rip one day if you catch it on something. I've got a couple scratches in mine just form normal use. That stuff is certainly not heavy-duty.

(However, maybe that's just my particular contact paper so you never know.)

what I meant was that clear contact paper is pretty good.
just that plexi or lexan is better.
I still suggest you get lexan.  :)
AGAIN,you can treat it just like wood.

Guys: Reread the original message. I think he's talking about side art, not the CP. Or are you seriously recommending he do the entire sides in Lexan? I know you did one in Plexi snake, but IMHO that sounds like way too much work (and way too expensive) to me as a general solution.

Snaaake - Is the clear contact paper just to protect the graphics?  What kind of adhesive do you use to stick the graphics overlay to the CP?

yeah clear contact paper looks pretty good.
its thick enough and wont tear appart or wear out.
Try on a scrap piece of wood and see how it like it.

I use spray adhesive for CP then plexi glass top.
If I were to redo the sides,I would just use clear contact paper because scoring plexi wasnt funny at all.
Man,WAYYYYYYY too much work :-\.
(I am aware of your request dude, didnt get a new HD yet)
