Question about LCD for arcade cabinet
« on: March 27, 2010, 07:34:46 am »
Just starting my first project and have decided on using a 24" widescreen LCD monitor in my cabinet.

Wondering whether to go matte or gloss LCD.

I'm eventually going to have a sheet of glass/plastic (whichever is best) covering the monitor but was wondering if because of this, I should steer clear of a glossy finish LCD? These screens look nicer to me, but also reflect/glare more, so would they create drama with extra or weird reflection being behind glass?

Or would it not matter?

Sorry if it's a stupid question, just thought I would ask if anyone had personal experience with it :)

Cheers!

Glass, not plexi,
And for the matte/gloss: with glass on top the outer presence will look gloss anyway, no matter if you put matte or gloss screens behind it, but you have the risk of an extra reflection. Behind glass you can see 2 ghost reflections already (not a problem, it looks pretty retro), but with a reflecting display it can get even more reflection layers. I would go with matte.
