Opinion needed for cleaning up this artwork.
« on: March 25, 2010, 01:07:22 am »
Hi All,
     I just really want an opinion as to how to best clean up this particular image;

I don't have any Photoshop or Illustrator skills, it's just that this was a favorite diskette label from my earliest computing days, and I always thought it'd make a neat poster.  Sadly, I no longer own any of these disks, nor have I been able to find any on E-Bay, or I'd have scanned the logo.  Everyone here is busy, and I'm not asking for free work, just asking, "How would you go about doing this?"  Perhaps I can learn a new skill in the process.

Thank You!

Wow I've not seen that logo in years.  Used to buy those by the box years ago.

Look here for a logo image that is already "poster" ready.

Thanks for that Flashiv, that's from the same site I got my image from.  But as you can see, there's quite a bit of bleed through from the page printed on the back of the ad.  I'd like some options as to how to clean these images up so that I could print them out for hanging in the computer room.

Thanks Again!

Do you have any originals that could be scanned at a higher resolution?
or perhaps buy something original that could be scanned? http://www.ioffer.com/i/Elephant-Memory-Systems-5-1-4-disk-organizer-89792151
I am not affiliated with whatever that site is... just found it during a google search

this one doesnt have as much bleed through but the colors are really poor with little detail in the elephant head http://home.comcast.net/~kevin_d_clark/ems/ems-mag-ad-2-small.jpg

hmm... seems the guy who designed the logo has a site: http://boblee.com/logos/logos_thumbs.html

@RobbyMac I had seen the images at the one site, and even the Ioffer auction, although I have never heard of Ioffer.com.  I did think about buying it, until I saw the link you gave to the original designer's site.  That should work nicely. Thanks very much!

[edit]  After going through Bob Lee's site I realized I also have the Joe Walsh Album as well as ELO's Out of the Blue and Discovery although Wikipedia says it was Kosh. I guess I just like this style as I had all of 'em sitting in my room when I was in College.

Well, having something you can scan in a higher resolution helps alot. With the google images found, it would be difficult to clean up and enlarge to poster size.
I completely forgot about these disks and searching for them reminded me of how my friends and I would collect disks and sleeves back in our 'commodore' days. I wonder what ever happend to all of them :(

If you wanted to learn how to do it yourself, Frosty wrote an excellent tutorial several years ago.  There is a link to it on the wiki page
