The Ultimarc xbox A/V to arcade monitor adapter
« on: March 13, 2010, 01:28:01 pm »
I bought one of these a while ago to connect an xbox to an arcade monitor, but I never ended up using it.

I'm wondering if there's any way to adapt it as a video amplifier between a pc and arcade monitor,
such as removing the xbox cable and soldering a vga cable to it.

The name of the product is in the topic title.

http://www.ultimarc.com/xba.html

Product description from the website.
"Connects X-BOX AV port to a 15 Khz Arcade Monitor and PC-type speakers. Includes video amplifier. Screw connectors for monitor."

The picture on the website seems to show an older version of is, since mine has the xbox video cable soldered directly to the board
as well as having the stereo output jack mounted directly to it.

I just cracked open the xbox connector plug and discovered where to solder the wires from the VGA cable to the board.
I just need to find out what the VCC signal is, why I need it, and where I can get it from.

EDIT:

I think I figured out how the VGA cable should be connected to this,
so I'm listing the pinout in case anyone needs it.

Wire color - function
-------------------------

Red - Audio Right
Gray - Audio Right Ground
Blue - Blue (video signal )
Black - Ground
Green - Green ( video signal )
Brown - +5V
White - Audio Left
Orange - Red ( video signal )
Yellow - Composite video / composite sync

sorry i tend to breeze past the title...

VCC is your power supply to the board...depending which pin it's connecting to on the xbox side  it might be 12 volts.

I got it working!

At first I had some issues with the monitor not syncing up, so I disconnected the combined
H and V sync wires from the board and ran them straight to the monitor and it helped a bit,
but the picture was still screwy.
As a final attempt at getting it to work, I connected the sync signals one at a time until
I discovered that I only needed the H-sync wire connected in order for it to work properly.

I don't really understand it, but I'll take what I can get.

Good Job! :applaud:

I was wondering if I could do this with my PSX > RGB adapter, I bet I can.

Something still isn't quite right though.

I can't get the vert hold stabilized.
It's fine up to the point that I have to make any adjustments to the monitor,
or exit the game to the front end, so I'm pretty sure I'm missing something.

So far, I have the R, G, B, Ground, and +5v from pin 9 of the VGA cable connected to the board,
with the H-sync line from the VGA cable connected directly to the monitor.

not sure, but you might have to hook up the sync to the board too.
