First sketch on a new cab... Input?
« on: March 09, 2010, 03:50:19 pm »
So I've built a few standard issue cabs but recently I have wanted to do something a little more exciting. This is the first sketch I have done which indicated where I would like to go. I want to build a cab that is a little bit more of a piece of furniture than a standard cab and a little more pleasing to the eye than a box with a screen on top.

I am not sure about exact scale yet as I am still just kicking this around in my head. However it is going to be pretty large as the shaded part there is going to be a padded two person seat.

again this is just the first inkling of this idea but I wanted to get some input from all the talented folk here.

let it fly! Lets crowd source this baby! What is stupid? What about it would never work? What should be added?

Scale is weird, like you mentioned...

You may want to check out some candy cabinet dimensions (Japanese sit-down cabs) as a jumping off point.

I like the candy cabs but I was thinking more low slung like a sit down pole position

If you get the seats just right you could have a setup where you sit upright close to the screen on the arcade
controls or sit back and relax with a d-pad like you would on the couch.

Would need an integral beer fridge of course.

Good luck with the project.

Here's an idea.  Looking more at comfort here, that design looks killer on the back.

Make it more like a lounge instead of sitdown..extend your seating so its more like your playing on your back.

Have the CP across the opening in the center.

Have your screen up more and not enclosed at angled 45 degrees down towards the players.

Drop the loungers down a few inches into the enclosure, put speakers on both sides and a sub in the back area, its already a good box, so you can feel the game.

I suck at drawing so I cant sketch this out like I see it.

It would be something I've never seen before......

I've got a bad back and there's no way I'd play that thing. Definitely need something against your back.

I look forward to when you hook up the reindeers!

But seriously, it does look like the seat is a bit too far away from the control panel.

Look at these:

What about a control panel that would move across your lap after you sat down?
