got no sound, any ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: March 08, 2010, 12:26:29 pm »
hi guys, i hope someone might be able to help us. i got a sega fighting vipers cabinet with sega sound amp originally connected to built in pc and it has been out of comission for a while but decided to get it up and running with mame and i noticed that there was a lead coming from the sound amp connecting to the on board sound on the motherboard. however i have had a few issues with signal to the monitor which a been resolved and now comes another problem no sound!, i have been advised to plug in a pc sound system to see if there is any sound coming out and my luck. none, i have been into device manager to see if the drivers are installed and they are. when i plug in the original lead from the sound amp into the motherboard im getting a humming sound which gets louder when you increase the volume on the cabinet....

what havent i done, or what should do or check.... im out of ideas, im thinking it maybe the motherboard?
thanks in advance guys

Well, that's a good sign that the original amp is working.

But the biggest thing is getting ANY kind of sound out of the PC, even on just normal pc style speakers first.
Obviously start with the basics... check audio settings, make sure that port is enabled, make sure the volume isn't muted or something goofy like that, make sure you're even plugging into the right port, etc.

If you can't get sound out of the pc like you normally would, then connecting to that amp is pointless.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.
