Problem generating custom list in Mamewah
« on: July 27, 2003, 10:11:54 am »
I have MAME071 setup correctly in mamewah0954b but cannot generate a custom list. Here is the sequence:
Generate List Options --> Select Custom List --> Choose Custom List 1 --> Generate Custom List Using Filters --> change Display Clones to Only if Parent is Broken -->  press 2 to exit the menu --> get a dialog saying Generating Filtered Game List --> no games found. Ive tried all of the different list generation options (ROM Folder, ROM Folder vs DAT File) but I dont think that is the problem since my main games list displays all games... Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you did everything right...

Try setting the List Generation Method back to the Listinfo one, and then refresh the main list.

Then try generating the custom list again.

It should work - I just did the same sequence...

I was setting up MameWah yesterday and got the same problem as jginiso.  I also tried filtering from certain bios, manufacturer, etc...  Same problem.

I'm running XP Pro SP1.  Windows cmdline Mame.

I figured it out:  This doesn't happen if you use a CatVer.ini - this is why I didn't notice...

For now, download+use CatVer and the problem shouldn't occur.

I'll fix for next release - thanks for finding the bug  :)

cool, glad I could help.
I searched the boards for catver.ini and many posts say to use triggerfan's catver file. Are either of these links to that file:
http://www.mameworld.net/catlist/
http://www.catver.com/
or can I use any one? Also, what do I do with it? Thanks

I'd recommend TriggerFins too: http://www.mameworld.net/catlist/ is the one :)  (Either will work tho).

Just put the CatVer.ini file somewhere suitable (I put mine in my MAME path), and refer to the 'CatVer Filename' in MAMEWAH under 'Emulator Settings' > 'List Generation Settings'.

Refresh the list and you should be able to view/use the categories :)

hi there... not meaning to hijack this or anything, but i am doing the same process here.  i have pointed MW to my catver and it generates fine, however Minwah said "Refresh the list and you should be able to view/use the categories" , now I seem to have all my roms listed under custom list1.  I'm not seeing where these categories are.... any help would be great..thanks!

You should be able to see the category of the currently selected game in the bottom right of the screen (using a standard 'Classic' layout except 640x288).

Go into 'Games List Options' > 'Generate Custom List using Filters' and you should see 'Category Filters'.  Go into this submenu and you will see a whole load of categories to turn on/off...

Hope that helps :)

sort of a related question, how do I cycle the lists without bringing up the menu to change the list?  I read the readme.txt and it talks about the coinA, coinB buttons.  Doesnt' do anything for me even though I have the lists set to TRUE in the cycling menu.

Thanks!

Um, what 'List Generation Method' are you using?  (Check in 'Emulator Settings' > 'List Generation Settings')

The CatVer file should make no difference to those filters being shown (even if you do not have a CatVer).

By default, Coin 1 is cycle custom list...BUT this is the HotRod style Coin 1 - ie '3'.  Older versions would work with either, but now you must use the 'Control Options' > 'Customise Controls' menu...

Of course I'm assuming you didn't realise that already - let me know if you've tried that...

Did you refresh your (main) list since you pointed to CatVer?
