Monitor problem.. what do you think?

I have a WG 25K7191 that I use with ArcadeVGA..

I also have a JAMMA board, but both the original board, and the PC emulated games show the same problem..

The best way to describe it is 3-5 1/2" stripes that go down the left half of the monitor.  The thing about them is that they're not colored.. they're just change in tint..

If I bring the brightness down, they almost disappear, but when I bring it up, they're visible.  When I play the game I don't notice them unless I look for it...

Was wondering if this is due to a tube being "tired" or maybe do I need to re-cap for board for it??

Any advise/suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Sounds like it needs a cap kit. Not positive though.

I agree with Tom61, it definitely sounds like your monitor needs a cap kit.  It sounds like you are describing "jail bars", an example pic of this can be seen here:  http://www.arcadeshop.com/pics/sanyo-jail-bars.jpg

Note that the size and frequency of jail bars varies depending on the condition of the caps in your monitor, but what you describe is a common problem with older monitors.  When in doubt, cap it...  

Also make sure you have a good ground connection to your monitor frame, and between the monitor chassis and frame.  Sometimes a faulty ground strap can cause weird anomalies in your picture.

I think you're right..

Now, I'm really good at fixing electronics, working a soldering iron, etc.. so doing the actual recap would be quite simple for me..

my only concern is taking the board out and putting it back in.. (the electronics I work with have 12v max.. not 1000!)

Are there any instructions in regards to how to do it properly? especially for this monitor??

Not much is different between different monitors when re-capping them.  Just the basic safety precautions is the most important thing to keep in mind.  Bob Roberts includes a "cap map" where all the included caps in the kit go on the chassis, so you should have no problem with it.
