Not sure if this gos here but I need help..
« on: February 28, 2010, 11:24:17 pm »
I picked up a final lap R arcade cabinet..Well one of the screens works and the other one doesn't because there's a crack in the neck board..On the one screen that works the graphics overall are crisp and clear but then they get liney and glitchy after awhile on the main menu and while racing..Like when the car is on the track its fine but the trees are purple then when you turn the car the wheels turn into lines..This is my first arcade cabinet..Can you tell me the basic ways to trouble shoot this issue? Also Is it plausible to super glu the neck board and "trace" the lines back with solder? Cause that's what the guy said I can do to fix it..Thanks.

As far as the neck board you can repair it, but you will need wire to bridge the gaps, not just solder.

As far as your other problem, sounds like a graphics issue in your game PCB.  Try removing and reseating all roms and connectors.

Bob Roberts has a great little tutorial on repairing broken neckboards. http://www.therealbobroberts.net/bnb.html

A good place to start would be to get a hold of the operating manual for the game.  Google is your friend. If that fails ebay for a hard copy.  That might give you insight into the sound connection.  As for the game board....remove, clean, and reseat all the roms.  Be careful not to bend or break any of the legs.  You might want to pick up an extractor tool at Radio Snack.  Bob Roberts might have them too.  You could also clean the edge connector and check the pcb is getting the proper voltage from the power supply.  Outside of that you really need to start troubleshooting the game board in depth.   That is not my area of expertise.  Maybe someone over at klov forums could help you out. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find out.
