Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare Reflex (Wii)
« on: February 27, 2010, 06:51:49 pm »
I'm a big fan of the Call of Duty games on the Wii. So I was eager to try out the latest release.

Unfortunately the game is virtually unplayabe. It uses the Wiimote as some sort of analog joystick instead of the obvious lightgun type device that it is. So instead of pointing where you want to shoot, the cursor sort of glides in the direction that you point at. That coupled with at times a choppy framerate means that there is no real active Rambo style shooting possible.

Incredible how they can get this so horribly wrong after they got it so right in the earlier versions of the game. In the older versions you could go for headshots, but in this one you're lucky to get the aim even near an enemy in time.

The AI is incredibly stupid, but that's the same in the older versions too. That doesn't bother me much to be honest.

The 1UP review gives it an A- (I doubt they even played the game or maybe they got a lot of money from the game studio?), but the IGN review gives it a more acurate 7.0.

This could have been a great game, but unfortunately it's unplayable due to the crappy controls.

That's a shame.
I thought FPS controls
for the Wii had been worked out
fairly well.
I had a great time with the Conduit,
and Metroid Prime 3.
Even that dinosaur game
controlled pretty good.
Guess you can't win them all.

Yeah, that makes it so weird. Metroid Prime and even the Call of Duty game that came out before Metroid, already had perfect controls.

Apart from great aim, the old Call of Duty allowed you to lean around corners by tilting the nunchuck. Worked great. Why leave that out in a newer version?

It's probably made by a different game studio, but even then.
