I've got a 25$ gamestop card... what should I buy?
« on: February 27, 2010, 06:12:38 pm »
I just got a free 25$ card from a promotion... but I'm stumped as to what to get since I just bought RE:DC and No More Heroes 2 and those were the last games I've seen that I wanted.  I would love some advice on what to buy.

Some Info that might be useful:

I own a 360, Wii, high-end pc and DS.

I'm not very fond of rpgs and fps.

Although I'm willing to spend more than 25$, it'd have to be for something I actually want as my gaming budget is blown for the season.

I love accessories as well, just not the useless ones like console skins and ramdom plastic wii attachments.

The only thing that came to mind for me was the rock band stage kit (now 29 bucks) but honestly that's more for hacking purposes as I'm currently working on mamehooker again and I have the protocols to interface with it's 32 lights and other random goodness.

Any advice would genuinely be appreciated as I'm stumped.  I'll probably go for a look at the local gamestop monday, weather permitting.

If you like Rock Band, the cymbal expansions for the drums make a serious difference.  They won't increase your score, but they make the drums a lot more fun to play, and they also make them look a lot cooler.  I have the double-cymbal kit, but I'd say spring for the triple one.  Double is enough, though, and I think it costs $29.  Single's not enough.

You could also hold off till summer.  The new Metroid game looks like it's going to be amazing.  And Super Mario Galaxy 2 is probably a safe bet.  The new Splinter Cell is nearly out too, which looks potentially good.

Hey schmokes!  Actually I don't even have rock band... I'm a guitar hero guy.  The stage kit would be purely for hacking purposes.  ;)

Good suggestions on the rest, but that's what I feared... kind of a dry spell atm and it'll be a while before anything good comes out.

pw79:  I looked up the tables list and I'm on the fence.  Black Knight and funhouse are really good... the others not so much.  I'm really more of a bally/midway fan (obviously).  Also quite a few of those tables have been released on previous pinball collections and most of them have really good future pinball re-creations available for free.  Not sure how I feel about playing pinball on my 360 either.

It occurs to me that the game for you is Muramasa: The Demon Blade.  It's perfect for a classic-lover (2D platformer).  And the price is right.

Looks like a winner to me.  It's out of stock at the nearby gamestop though, so I dunno if I'll get it.

On an unrelated note, is gamestop ever gonna fix their used games pricing?  Muramasa is the perfect example..... I can get a scratched up used copy for 25 bucks, or pay 5 whole more dollars to get a perfect, new copy.  I consider myself to be very cheap but seriously, are there people out there so cheap that they'd by a crappy used copy of a game just to save 5 lousy bucks?

If there's nothing of value to you in the store, offer the card to another shopper for $22-23.

Or, just keep it in your wallet until you want something

(It has taken me like 2 years to use a Best Buy gift card.  Too many better deals on the net.)

Eh, I don't think there's enough money involved to deal with all that.  Honestly though one of my problems is that I generally don't even visit gamestop, much less buy stuff there.  People go crazy with their pre-orders and what not and yet I can get a game on release day for 3-5 bucks less at K-mart simply because people don't think of them for purchasing games.  If they don't have it then I go to walmart or sam's club to get it because they typically also take a few bucks off the retail price, just to piss off their competition.  Our local gamestops (we have like 4) are out of the way, and typically try to take people with their used games policies.  For that reason I try to avoid them, but hey... free is free.
