FWIW, that game is considered very rare. $40k+ rare though?

Check out this article about another similar auction.

That's either one hell of a shill bid, or it's legit - the sticker on the front seems to give it away that it's not a opened Stadium Games with a new shrink wrap on it, but then again...

In any case, good luck to the bidder - I'd only buy this thing if I won the lottery, and even then I'd probably still catch hell from the wife.  :dunno

It could set two records. Highest price for a game cartridge, and Worlds Biggest Dumbass to whoever buys it.

no way would I trust that kinda money with someone with very little feedback.

I mean it is not to bad of feedback but 40K+ bad, me yeah I would say so.

now if they have maybe a few thousand feedback I may consider trusting the seller with that kinda money but hell might as well fly there in person and check it out if you got that kinda money to spend on "A" nes game and just pay in person :dunno

if it were shipped and got lost you think the carrier would actually cover the cost of your 45K+ nintendo game paypal would probably turn there head on ya also if that were the case.

If someone gave me that much for a game, I'd fly to their house and hand deliver it.

If someone spent that much on a game they should buy a plane ticket and go get it in person.

Yep. I know i would. And take it home as hand luggage so it can't possibly go astray...

Edit: ok. WTF?

This is just like how every damn game out there nowadays is "RARE!" or "HTF!!!"  ::) Yes, it's a "rare" game, but to say it's the only one when there is at least one other auction advertising the same damn thing, especially in a place that is readily accessible by the purchasing public?

hehe. Well, that second one has been relisted. Looks like he's being a bit more careful with who bids this time. Good luck to him. Also, i see a few people trying it on with the PAL version, which apparently isn't particulary rare. Like here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330409011071&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en

or how about just the]empty box? Yours for just $14,000  :tool:

I'm off to the printers  ;D

Also, how many people now will either try and sell a PAL version, or even a fake one by putting it in a bundle as if they didn't know it's worth? If you haven't directly CLAIMED it to be anything, you haven't committed fraud. Just let people silently hope they win the auction for what they think is a gold nugget, just that it's actually pyrite...

I have to assume that ebay doesn't do anything special to someone who doesn't honor a $800,000 bid versus a $5 bid, because there's no way that just one person is being silly there.

that's not really the point though, is it? You could also probably play it on an emulator for free or play the renamed version. While i would never pay that much to complete my collection, some people do. That's what collecting is all about.

Today i mentioned this to a work colleague. That someone had paid $41,000 for an old computer game that is still wrapped up and so will probably never play it. He's in his 50's so I thought he would ridicule it out of hand. he's always ribbing me about my geeky console collecting. But he pointed out that people pay a lot more than that for bottles of vintage wine that they will never open. Very good point. And at least with this particular game, you can play the game with a later cart or maybe emulation.

Collectors are funny people.  But I've spent ridiculous money on things that I technically don't need (e.g. vinyl copies of CDs I already own) so I can't mock that much - though never in the five figure range (not even three figure range).
