Are your roms up to date? Sounds like you need newer versions.

Make sure support isn't broken in this version of MAME, then. Sometimes games stop working from version to version.

You lost me there...  Do you mean some of the game stop working in new mame updates from time to time?

Thanx

Yes, occasionally they break games. Usually it's either an accident and they correct later, or it's on purpose because they are working on better support for it.

It's a known bug in .136.

http://www.mametesters.org/view.php?id=3630

Tafoid will be along shortly to confirm this.  He knows everything about it (and a lot of other stuff as he's an admin/mod) at Mametesters.

You can use an earlier version or go with .136u1 as it was fixed.

You did it already for me.  Thanks :)

When in doubt, search http://mametesters.org or http://mamedev.org/devwiki/index.php/FAQ:Games .  If it's known, it's probably mentioned or documented there.

Not me.  I don't last long enough in these games to find bugs.  Unless the bug in Pac-Man are the ghosts getting the little yellow bastard in about 10 seconds every time.   :lol

I'm just talking about games that suddenly stop working or start having problems. I posted a problem on there for Blazing Tornado and it was fixed pretty quick after that. It was a game I absolutely HAD to have working.

NTM, you can build ANY SET you want from the current mame set and the mame rollbacks.

exactly...  I don't remember asking anyone to post their entire setup on an ftp or anything...  LOL...  people like that make me want to strangle small puppies...  :-)

I have since fixed this as the update 136u3 fixed my woes...  you keep using your old .95 if it makes you happy.  :-)

How does this work?  What do you need to have to do this?  Does it work for the .CHD's as well?  Is there a tutorial anywhere?

Thanks.

You need the current roms and the rollback roms. Then you need a dat that describes the set you want to make. Then you load the dat into clearmamepro, and point cmp to your roms collection. Then cmp will use those to rebuild the set you want.

It will work with CHD's, but you're looking at huge file sizes for the entire collection. Approximately:

1) Mame roms (23 GB)
2) Mame rollbacks (5.6 GB)
3) Mame CHDs (105 GB)
4) Mame Rollback CHDs (162 GB)
5) Laserdisc CHDs (77 GB)

CHDs are hardly worth it, most don't work or aren't playable or defective if they do.

The best place to go for all this and more info including tutorials is

I actually use .96 roms still.  I've updated my roms to a more recent version that that but I haven't found that many games that I wanted to play in the more recent versions.

That being said, I didn't have any problems finding all the extra files that I needed for that set including artwork, cheats etc.  I'd be more than happy to share with anyone who asks.  I can't believe that someone here would say that they aren't sharing.   :-\

Some will work perfectly if you have beefy enough hardware. Providing that you build it seperately out of generic components, and it comes with the xp driver cds. your current MS OS should support it. although, if you go with 64 bit hardware, you would need the X64 version of windows xp to realize any benefit out of it, and then also remember that XP X64 does not support X86 32 bit applications, drivers, you get the idea.

reason i say that is because windows 7 is absolutely full of quirks, as well as extra things you really dont want or need. i got all kinds of quirks related to that when trying to set up old software on it, even under the virtual console, and i had bought a brand new laptop with it preinstalled, and then upgraded to Xp pro just for the virtual console.

ive since bought another liscence for Xp Pro SP2 to run all my quirky software in a dual boot, on the brand new laptop.

Its actually ridiculous how the manufacturer handles it. they wont even answer your emails about this setup or support it on their website.

To help anyone though whose unlucky enough to buy an aspire 5532 or newer laptop, heres what they dont tell you.

any 5530 series AMD Aspire is the same hardware. the model changes was simply cause acer wanted to drop support for XP.

The 5530G XP drivers on their website WILL work on your 5532 or 5535 or greater.

it took weeks for me to figure that out.

What was that song, You you you oughta know.

<edit> Oops, my sincerest apologies, thanks for the correction saint and it won't happen again.

also, as far as using an older version of mame, etc, it really just depends on your needs.
