CHD path... Can I keep CHDs on an external drive?

Wondering if there is a way to have MAME look for the CHDs on my external hard drive rather than my main hard drive. I'll be buying a bigger main hard drive in the future, just thinking I could do this to get me by.

Sure you just need to have the drive plugged in BEFORE you start mame and have the drive added as a path in your mame.ini. 
You might need to move the roms that go with the chds onto the drive as well though..... mame typically looks for a chd's rom in the same place it finds the chd.

Howard_Casto thanks for the confirmation. Do you know where I would put the path in the mame.ini? Would it go after my current rom path seperated by a ;?
