Build your own Video Slot machine....
« on: February 20, 2010, 09:36:00 am »
Hey everyone, Just wondering if anyone knows where I can find a site similar to this but only on building your own slot machine? I googled it and had no luck. I've done the mame thing and would love to add a slot machine...

let me know, I appreciate any help.

thanks,

Malenko

I run the Masque Publishing slot games on my touchscreen, and they're awsome.  I've got 'Little Green Men', 'Texas Tea' and the 'WMS Double Pack'.

But you can't modify them to take coins in or out.  The only keyboard key that's used is the space bar for 'repeat bet'.  I wired that up to a real slot machine 'spin reels' button via an I-Pac so I can either touch the screen or press the button to spin.

I run some of the Phantom EFX Reel Deal Slots on mine.
(Mystic Forest, Ghost Town, Gold Rush, etc)

Some of the "newer" ones don't work well with a touchscreen though, like they throw the calibration way off when running.
(Treasures of the Far East, Blackbeard's Revenge, etc)

(Treasures of the Far East, Blackbeard's Revenge, etc)

Just to note - if you play the newer ones in Windowed mode the touchscreen works fine with them.
Why the difference between the older versions playing full screen and the newer ones don't like it with a touchscreen .....  :dunno

btw has anyone ever been able to get output from mame? most of the gambling games in mame are pretty crappy..

but there is this one game called lotto fun thats pretty cool, but dont know of any way getting output from mame.

there are other games that had lights and such also.. chase HQ comes to mind.. and terminator had the lights on the gun and recoil feedback.
Anyone got change for a dollar?

"Lotto Fun" ... geez, I have only seen that game at one location. (it's actually Lotto Fun 2 they have) Guess you'd be wanting it to spit out tickets ?

I hadn't kept up with much along the lines of outputs, but I know there has been progress on the output stuff in some fashion.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=82987.0

Here's one list from that same thread with games that have outputs.
(no, I haven't looked through it)

actually you can set it to dispense tokens instead of tickets.. lol ya i play the first one i tried setting up the 2nd one but it just says "contact operator, out of tokens" when ever you win.. and i can't figure out how to clear it..

i assume there must be some sort of sensor on the real machine but could'nt find the input that handled it.

this thread got me thinking that would be a cool little unit to build i even spent 20 minutes thinking how i could build my own hopper and token dispenser, the game (1st one at least) is emulated quite well and is pretty fast.. i bet a little pentium 200 or maybe a low pentium 2 would run it just fine with passive cooling.

not that it would be a priority since i have'nt even got my 1st mame cab done but the outputs would be the problem.
i even thought it might be cool to add flashing lights.. im not sure what the real original unit looked like i never seen either 1st or 2nd lotto fun at a location.

you should give it another shot.. try the 1st one.. there is actually some skill involved you can control the door that sucks in the balls, although.. ya it's 80% luck.

granted without hearing bells, or jingle jingle from winning it does grow old quickly in mame but it's definitely one of the better gambling games i've ran across (imo).

thanks for the link and text file, it'll give me something ot read.. i know at some point in the far distant future i would love ot have a 2 or 3 player positional gun cab and terminator just would'nt be terminator without the clicky clicky of the guns, even thought it wont do me any good right now it would be nice to know if it's at least possible for the future.

EDIT: hmm that text file says lotto fun only had 1 led output, nothing else that does'nt make any sense though how would it trigger ticket or token dispenser?

For LottoFun2 in MAME - Start game, press F2, go to Miscellaneous Adjustments, change Award Type. (choose Tickets or Tokens by using CTRL button)

I actually have a LottoFun2 boardset I use for testing ticket mechs. Been awhile since I messed with it though.

EDIT: hmm that text file says lotto fun only had 1 led output, nothing else that does'nt make any sense though how would it trigger ticket or token dispenser?

I would assume ANY output could be used to trigger just about anything. May need a step up circuit of sorts to drive anything bigger like motors or gun coils.
The only concern I would have with redemption games is that a regular board usually has a signal out and a signal in for "counting" the tickets/tokens payed out.
I just tried LottoFun2 in MAME and it counted out the tickets without anything connected, so I'm guessing this has been bypassed/modified somehow in the MAME code. (otherwise it should pop up a ticket mech error)

btw little update.

in my mamecab i was planing on using the parallel port to trigger a relay for turning the monitor on.
well that does'nt look like it's going to be possible as apparently unknown to me at the time it's common for computers to set all pins high (on) at or during P.O.S.T..

none the less playing around with hooking up a led the other day i tried "mame hook"
it's pretty cool somewhat confusing, i dont fully understand it but was able to get it working pretty easy for chase HQ, it worked flawlessly.

anyway i also tried it out on lottofun (#1).. apparently it works by sending 1 pulse for 1 token/ticket won.

i'd watch the led quickly flash after winning, so a dedicated lotto fun would easily be doable.
infact it would be really cool cause i could add sirens and flashing lights which i dont think the original had.

anyone needing ot get some output from mame i recommend checking out mame-hook, it's pretty nifty.
although i wish this sort of function was built into mame rather then needing a 2nd program to handle it.
