hotrod se game selection and mame32
« on: February 20, 2010, 05:37:12 am »
Hello I just acquired a mame cab with hotrod attached to it. I threw in a newer

computer and a newer version of Mame32 to monkey with while I experiment with

Mala,Mamewah and other frontends meant for joystick interface. Cab came with old

comp  with mame32 .56 on it ,I put newer comp with  mame32 .105 on it. On the old

computer was able  to select games in mames ui with the hotrods player 1 button .Now

I cant .So I go to mameui config  and change UI_KEY_START   to   " KEYCODE_1 NOT

KEYCODE_LALT" and  when I press the 1player button it just kicks me to games

beginning with the number 1.Is this the wrong way to achieve this? Also with this

newer computer the hotrod sometimes makes the the motherboard beep and buttons

sometimes act if stuck with mame and other emus .Is there any adjustments in

windows I can toggle to remedy this ? I hear some motherboards do not work well with

the hotrod. The computer is a Hp dc710 p4 running xp sp3.Sorry for this poorly written

wall of possibly moronic questions but Ive been searching the web for days and cant

find much current info on the hotrod se.Just looking for a temp mame32 fix while I

experiment with the better frontends. Thanks

BobA

Did you change the Options/Default Game Options/Controllers/Default Input Layout from standard to hotrodse?

Thanks for the reply BobA, I had to enable custom key sequences. Now my main problem is the periodic system speaker beeps and button lock,on any emu or frontend.Ive turned off sticky and filter keys. Reading some old  hotrod site on mame world says that the hotrod might not be compatible with some computers.Ive tried unplugging the keyboard from the hotrod as suggested but that kills everything including the mouse. Can the hotrod function without a keyboard? Its not that big of deal but if anyone has any ideas Id like to hear em,otherwise might just have find another computer,Thanks.

It does have to have a Keyboard attached.
What you can do ... Get a cheap keyboard take it apart and steal the encoder.
Then go to Radio Shack and buy one of those small project boxes.

I had to use a program called keytweak to change some of the Default HotRod SE
keys L Alt caused me a lot of problems in games. I have had no problems since
I used KeyTweak.

 Slightly Offtopic:
Have you " Tapped into" the Hidden Keys on your HotRode SE?
( Its really much easier than they would have you believe.)

In case its not obvious I own a HotRodSE also and would glad to help any way I
can!

Once you do some minor Tweaks ...really not bad at all!

PS
* I also forgot to mention there sort of a way to use it without keyboard
but its not recomended. ( I can confirm it works here )
I can unplug the Keyboard after Windows boot just not before ;)
However you will not be able to plug the keyboard back in untill
a re-boot. You could however Get a USB mouse, keyboard, Run
your HotrodSE from PS2 port with Hacked Kweyboard Encoder board attached.

Awesome advice TD, Ive been having so much fun drinking and playing this thing that I have not messed with keytweak yet, but the exe is on there and ready.Have not tapped into those extra buttons yet but its nice to know I can add some dedicated ones  in the future. Now Im getting  greedy for a trackball. So Im gonna browse the forums and see what kinda rigs folks have come up with. Thanks again for the knowledge guys, much appreciated.
