New Cabinet Inspired by Rototron/1Uparcade/Delusional
« on: February 05, 2010, 06:06:59 pm »
I'm just getting into this and have been cruising around the BYOAC forum for a while and have decided to go ahead and take the plunge.  I just wanted to show you some designs and see what you think (and tell me if I'm insane).  Having just inherited a good deal of woodworking tools though, I believe I can do this.  The main design that I'm focusing on is the control panel design.  I would like to have a 4p design like Delusional's (complete with the dual 1p and 2p sticks, great idea), but don't want to have the clutter if I decide to put steering wheels, flight yokes, etc in there.  So herein lies the dilemma.  I have a rough draft, if you will, of a combination of Delusional's design combined with the Rototron/1Uparcade design in Solidworks.  As a side note, Solidworks is great for collision detection with moving parts, which I'm sure will come in handy (you'll see what I mean when you look at the pics  ;D ).  The part that is new for most I imagine will be the independantly rotating 1p and 2p controls, and the ability to hide sticks for things like straight up Golden Tee.  Well, I'll keep this thread going as I get more input and the design starts to finalize.  Thanks for your help everyone and I couldn't even imagine doing this without BYOAC.

Very nice design.  I want to use 3 different joysticks for myself and my fighting games, so my CP will have 3 different setups for myself.  I plan on making two cabinets and having them side by side.  If I was making a single cabinet, your swappable idea seems like something I might use.
