question about a saturn mod
« on: February 04, 2010, 01:50:42 am »
so, I want to do this mod to my US saturn

http://mmmonkey.co.uk/console/sega/saturn-ultimate.htm

but the thing is, I couldn't care less if it was able to switch between 50Hz and 60 Hz.
if i were to simply skip out on soldering to the graphics chip, would the mod still work for switching between all of the region codes?
there aren't too many pal games i want to play, but some of the more expensive saturn games are substantially cheaper in the PAL regions.
also, would the signal still be sent in 60 Hz, or would it switch to 50 Hz?

AFAIK the graphics soldering is for the 50/60 mod

you can play japanese games (JPN/NTSC) just fine with a region switch

alright, so US and JPN games both run at 60Hz, or NTSC.
but PAL games normally run at 50Hz, though some can run at 60Hz.
so if I skipped out on the 50/60Hz switch, would PAL games that can run at 60 Hz do so?

yes, the 50/60 basically forces the game to refresh at 60 if I remember correctly

Oh wow.
Your making you own mod chip, nice.
I modded a Saturn with a chip
from racketboy years ago.
It was only two solder points,
and plug in a ribbon cable.
Bought 2 chips, but one was defective.

Hope everything works out well for you.
It seems like a cool project.

Mod to a saturn, not mod chip for saturn. This is a region unlock not a copy disc mod ;)
