I need help =( monitor menu stuck?
« on: August 19, 2009, 11:28:54 pm »
Hi, my name is JC and I need help.

So I bought this cabinet/MAME set up quite some time ago and haven't gotten around to setting it up until now.

I KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT SETTING UP MAMES, except that I want to run the cabinet on my computer tower (overqualified pc) with emulators of games to this cabinet and monitor. It's a 4 player control panel with I THINK a betson monitor?

I have the computer running the screen at a low resolution, 640x480@40hz? or 60hz? something like that I can double check if that's really important.

Anyways I took a bunch of photos to help illustrate what I'm dealing with and what the current problem is.

MY PROBLEM is that the screen is stuck with a menu screen that I can't get off of it. At start up it's not there... then around when the window's screen appears  it comes on and I can't get it off.

I opened the back of the cabinet and located a sort of control panel I'm assuming controls the monitor functions. the piece is KT-2914 part OSD, the guy who made this cabinet zip tied it  which I think was the cause of the "down button" becoming stuck and the "up button" being broken completely off.

What can I do to get rid of this menu screen?

Is there anything else I need to know about setting this mame up? I basically download some emulators and run them, and configure the control pannel / buttons .....

Any advice, help, recommendations and support is extremely appreciated and I thank you for your time.

hope these photos helped

there are also a resistor and diode unsoldered, best way forwards is to fix the control board as all it needs is a switch and a bit of soldering-otherwise you will need a new control board

would it be easier to just try to order the "up" "down" KT-2914 part OSD part that was has the broken buttons from the zip tie?

I really don't know what you mean, what picture is it that you're referring to? maybe it can better help me understand ???

I believe he meant what you referred to as the "Control piece", it does look a bit worse for wear. It shouldn't be that hard to get a new switch and resolder the components in place. That resistor definitely does look a bit off

Just for kicks..... I'd unplug the control board all together and see what it does.

HEY! good idea  :lol

I'll try that out.

If that's not working... anyone know where I could find that piece? I'm going to try unplugging it now.

it's without a doubt 100% that small chip piece with the controls.

I was able to push with my finger that little broken one at the end of the board where the power connects to it.. to get it to touch where it broke from and with the other finger press exit and exit out of the screen. I guess I can solder it to make it temporarily work... but I will have to always go in the back and exit out of it.... I think because some buttons are broken it continues to bring up that screen

WHAT I NEED IS A NEW ONE OF THOSE BOARDS

  :blah:

anyone know where I can get one  :burgerking: :dunno :afro: ;D

Sounds like the OSD button is still stuck ON then........ I'd find me an old VCR or something and rob some buttons off it. Resolder or replace the two little components and call it good.
