Is there a keyboard>joystick program anywhere?
« on: February 18, 2009, 12:35:46 pm »
This is going to confuse some people... so I won't explain but basically I need a program that does the OPPOSITE of joy2key - i.e. it makes the strokes from a keyboard into button presses or different keystrokes to the ones pressed!

I basically want to link 2 keyboard encoders upto one PC but they both have the same layout and are unconfigurable! Therefore I need to change the mapping on the second one somehow...

Please help!

there was one for a decades go which worked great with Virua Tennis, but the application is not aware for diffecent keyboard encoders.

I mean MAME do can detect multiple keyboard if they set in the ini file, but it very unliked setup using 2 encoders that way, since they cant been programmable.
Decade Old Work: MultiFE, ArcadeMusicBox
Today Works: Various Spectrum Next games from Rusty Pixels and html5 games.

As Space Fractal said, mame can handle multiple keyboards with -multikeyboard option in mame.ini, and probably need to remap at least player two to use "keyboard 2".

Other apps, OTOH, probably can't do multiple keyboards.

What app do you want to use the 2 keyboard encoders?

Thanks people - I will look into all suggestions.

Basically I want to make a dual screen cab (well its actually 2 cabs side by side) - first cab will be players 1 and 2, the second will be players 3 and 4 (although can be converted quickly and easily back to a standalone cab when it needs to be)

The keyboard encoders I have are basically professionally homemade keyboard hacks but they all have the same keys. You may see what I'm getting at now...

It would be cool if AutoHotKey could do this...

Once I have some time to research this properly (and if I get anywhere!) I'll keep you posted here.

Thanks for everyone's responses. :)

Wonder why nover came up with PPjoy.
It basically is a Joystick interface for various systems. It also contains "virtual" Joysticks and a tool called PPJoyKey that maps button presses to a Joystick.

*EDIT*
Oops forgot link:

I do all that stuff even without a Joystick ;)
