Xbox rgb cable made = problems
« on: June 17, 2003, 10:54:24 pm »
i made the cable to interface with my arcade monitor.  I'm getting a red no signal message(normally it flashes different colors).
Should i replace the capacitors? i think the supplied ones are 100uf, but should i get 220uf? will that even help?

That sentence didn't make much sense.  I'm guessing you ment to say you aren't getting and RED in the picture.  If this is the case, trace (with a multimeter) the red line from the pin to just before the cap to make sure there isn't a break somewhere.  I had one bad cable with this problem.

The 100uf caps should be enough (unless your picture is to dark).

yeah that doesn't make much sense sorry. what im trying to say is:
normally when there is no signal sent to my d9200 monitor the screen says "no signal" in a box.  The box is colored and that color changes every 2 seconds(red, green, blue, white etc).  When i plug the xbox cable that i made into the monitor and turn on the xbox, the no signal message box stops changing colors and stays red.  So maybe that means that there is a signal but it is too weak.
I'm assuming that because i had the same constant red no signal message ONCE when i used a ps2 vga box.  Every other time before and since then, the ps2 vga box worked fine( a tad blurry i may add)

I did NOT use the lm1881N chip to strip the sync from the comp video line for the xbox cable.  I figured my monitor was new enough to do that.  Maybe i need to use one.

right now im using the capacitors that were in the scart cable housing. i think they are 100uf... should i use 220uf instead?

Any help is greatly appreciated

I'm not familiar with the d9200...does it autoswitch between 15khz and 31khz?  Is there a way to make sure its in 15khz mode?  Hacking the xbox SCART cable means the jumper pins should already be grounded correctly for RGB mode...so maybe trace the sync pins (hor and vert) to make sure they are no breaks.  Also maybe you don't have the H and V lines going to the proper VGA port pins on the d9200?

here's the problem. There is no H and V sync(xbox outputs composite video in RGB mode)... only composite video which i have running to h sync on my monitor.
The D9200 Does auto switch from 15-25-31khz.  First time i hacked the cable i used the VGA cable.  The second time i tried the normal arcade monitor hookup.  I got the same result both times.  A red no signal message.

Do you think i would get a picture if i stripped the sync out of the composite video with an LM1881N?

Again, I'm not familiar with the d9200, but its possible that monitor does not like video information on the video sync...and thus does not see it as a proper composite sync signal.  So yes, splitting to H/V sync with an LM1881N would be what I'd try next.
