Best way to configure GENS, or better Genesis emu??...
« on: September 17, 2008, 09:10:23 am »
Hi all,

I've been keen on emulation for a few years now, built my own stick a few years ago etc and it's all been leading to the obvious conclusion of knocking up my own cab.

Anyway, I've discovered Mala and it's great, and I'm genuinely excited about how customisable it is. I'll be knocking up my own layout soon enough (with a bit of help here and there I'm sure) and have got it basically configured how I want.

I've had my stage of needing full sets of every game for every system ever and now I'm just putting together the games I'm really fond of from my youth.

I've got Mala running Mame, Zsnes, Nestopia and Gens and they all load the ROM direct from Mala, at the right resolution/aspect ratio and play with the controls I want seamlessly. Great huh.....??

Well almost :( I can't for the life of me figure out how to get gens to quit back to Mala without using the mouse.

All the other emu's can be configured to quit at the press of a definable button and to quit without confirmation. But Gens just won't do it. I've tried the other incarnations of gens (32 etc) but I can't configure any of them to do it.  :hissy:
Ideally I'd like to stick with Gens because it's a great emu but if there is something else out there that will do what I need then it'll have to do.

Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated :)

***EDIT*** There appears to be an 'exithook' option which appears to be the answer to my problem!! I'm not at home to try it out unfortunately but hooray for this amazingly comprehensive frontend!!!
However, if i've got the wrong end of the stick and that won't fix my problem then feel free to advise away ;)

Well if the exit hook option doesn't work for you, closemul works real well with all emus and requires no configuration if all you want is the ESC key to close the emulator.  I would be shocked if it did not solve the GENS problem.

I will second dungbeetle46's remarks that Fusion works real well with all the Genesis roms and with Mala.
