How to secure plexiglass to control panel?
« on: June 10, 2003, 07:48:03 am »
Hey guys.

Just looking for the basic hardware used to secure a sheet of plywood to the control panel.  What does a good job but doesn't look terrible?

Your topic does not mesh with your question.

But I will try anyway.

Plexiglass is held on by the buttons and the joystick bolts and usually little else. Most dedicated games did not come with plexiglass, plexi is the realm of the conversion game.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Okay I gotcha now.  I thought people bolted their plexiglass through the panel through the corners or something like that.

For my previous panels, I used #8 screws with finishing washers to hold down the plexi:

In reality, though, I find it annying to occassionally rub up against these (usually when playing pinball), so on my next panel I'm just going to let the buttons hold down the plexi.  (My joystick bolts are under the plexi, so they don't help...)

Some people do.  If they have a large enough panel it might be a good idea to secure the corners to keep them from getting snagged and snapping up.

Personally I think it looks horrible and is unnecessary.  The buttons do a fine job of securing the overlay.

I have six bolts - 4 in each corner an 2 in the middle. You don't touch them while playing, so nothing disturbing there.

I am pretty sure that the games that had plexi would use carriage bolts to hold them down. usually in the corners like that DK example.

but you can probably get away without them, and let the buttons, etc as people mentioned, do the job.
