Vote: The best racing wheel
« on: August 08, 2008, 11:21:53 am »
I love the Thrustmaster, i have had their products for 10 years and have picked up the Cougar recently. All and all the best stick made by man. I have not touched their racing wheel. I wish the shifter was not integrated.

Most often on this board I hear about the Act Labs system http://www.act-labs.com/products/race1.htm
I have to admit I like the looks of the shifter a lot but it looks like they are not even producing the wheel right now, Id have to get one second hand. Also someone mentioned that the force system had a tendency to break in places.

What about the Logitech G25.  I was kind of under the impression that this is the best wheel out there, and it has a gear shifter and pedals with a clutch.  I have the Logitech MOMO wheel that the G25 replaces as Logitech's top-of-the-line, and I can say that the MOMO wheel is very high quality.  I absolutely love it.

My mistake, I swear the Logitec was in the list when I made it.

Edited it up now.

The biggest plus to the G25 is that it is PS2/PS3 compatible.
For those with a lower budget, I would highly recommend the Driving Force Pro.
Everything else I've tried feels cheap by comparison.

I should also point out that I actually prefer the Driving Force Pro for Playstation use.
It has the buttons on the wheel, where they are easier to access for things like handbraking, etc...

Lots of places make custom  commercial grade wheels and pedal sets
as seem here.   However.. as expected.. the price will be quite high.

Those wheels look pretty nice, but for $1000+ you'd think it'd have top quality force feedback as opposed to . . . none.

Those pedals impress me a lot, but it is in need of a real shifter.

Actually,  My favorite driving control are on the sit-down version of
Race Drivin.

Built like a tank.  Awesome control.  Realistic feel and responses.

The wheels main shaft traveled thru a powerful 50+ lb motor for sick force feedback
strength.  Ive never felt feedback as strong.  (Most arcades turned the feedback
level of the machine down to medium level.   At full power... it could almost lift
you out of your seat :)  )

The wheel could make several 360 degree rotations in either direction.

The gas pedal and brake used different mechanisms.   The brakes used
heavy tension springs and rubber compression tubes for a realistic
feel.

The Shifter was awesome.   Spring loaded so that it would snap in
place.  Smooth and easy transitions.  Easy to find the correct gears.
Built to take the most extreme abuses.  The only part that went bad on them,
eventually, was the pots.
