Can't insert coin on Thayer's Quest (Daphne)

Does anyone know how to start Thayer's Quest from Daphne?
I get it to load and it shows the whole attract screen but id does not recognize my button presses for inserting coins or starting the game.
This is the only Daphne game I've tried that exhibits this behavior.

Any ideas?

I don't have it in front of me now, but Thayer's Quest does work (relatively well) and you can add credits & start.

As I recall, the keypresses are different for Thayer's Quest, since it has that funky keyboard.  It's not the usual 5 & 1.

If you have DaphneLoader (you probably do), you should be able to go in & assign keystrokes, which should show you what key does what.  I also recall downloading a file (part of the Daphne download?) that was an image of the TQ keyboard w/ all of the PC keyboard equivalents.  If you can't figure it out, PM me & I'll check when I get back to my machine.

I did see the inputs tab and the coin buttons were assigned to 5 and "C" as for most other games and none of the special Thayer's Quest keyboard commands are available for re-assignment in that menu.
Curiously, I downloaded Daphne 0.99.7 and the games does work there.  I haven't played enough to figure out if the keys are mapped according to that image you talked about but at least I was able to start the game rather than seeing it loop the introduction video over and over again, mocking me 
I'm not sure what's going on.  I might use the older version of Daphne for that game.

Thanks for jogging my memory.  I've got the newest Daphne w/ the auto-downloader & loader & settings-setter interface, which works great for almost all the laser games.  I believe that the 2 exceptions are Thayer's Quest, which requires a legal Digital Leisure purchase to run in the current Daphne but not an older rev, and Cliffhanger, which isn't supported in the current rev but is in the older rev (although the developer says it has issues, I haven't seen any, but I haven't played it very much yet...).

Thanks for the mappings.
I had seen that snapshot but I still can't get Daphne to go past the attract mode with the latest version.  It can't get it to insert coins. 
Perhaps those mappings are hard-coded and I need to map the "insert coin" action to one of the keys that are not already mapped?

I have the latest Daphne version and it plays Cliffhanger.  I have it set to auto-download program udpates but use my own frame files.  Like I said, Thayer's loads but just stays on the attract mode.

Howdy TheManuel-

I've been meaning to get to this for quite some time now, but I finally did.

I can start Thayer's Quest fine, & here's how:

First, I'm using Daphne 0.99.7pre5


1: After I launch Daphne, I wait for the animation to start.

2: I hit 5 and then 5 again to enter 2 credits

3: After a short pause, I get the scren that reads "Insert more coins for more time" or something, & the voice says to press any key to continue.  At this point, let me ask if you can hear the synthesized voice--I had trouble w/ the voice being quiet for a while (which I think I solved by turning up the volume).  Make sure you can hear it--you should hear it speak some nonsense line (about a laser disc self-test?) when you first see something on-screen

4: I hit key 1 (any key on that keyboard pic ought do...)

5: the voice asks me to type in my name.  I type J A S O N, then I hit F3 for "enter"

6: the voice speaks my name & asks me to confirm it.  I hit 1 for "yes"


Then animation starts & the game is on!

But seriously, thanks a lot for coming back with this information because I had filed the game under incorregible.
I just followed your directions and I can get it to work with an old version of Daphne but not with the most recent one.  The latter just kees looping and looping and looping and does not recognize my coin inptus .  Clearly, it is cursed.  Oh well.  I don' t want to make a PhD dissertation out of making the latest version work so I'll just have MaLa use the old version for that particular game.

I realize this is a real old thread, but I ran into the same issue. This will help those trying to figure out how to make inputs in Thayer's Quest:

As the FAQ says, "Thayer's Quest keys cannot be changed as of the time of this writing."
