Best Cards for use with Soft15khz

Hey Sailorsat, thanks for the fantastic tool! It's a lifesaver since AdvanceMame is no longer being updated.

Now on to the topic at hand, I'm starting off a thread of cards that work nearly perfectly with soft15khz. Yes, I'm aware of the compatability thread on arcadeinfo.de:

But this thread should contain more detailed information, such as suggestions that are based on card price, availibility, interface, driver version, etc.

I think it would be helpful to have a thread that just offers up tidy solutions for those who just want to drop some cash and get the right card.

Here's my suggestion for people with low-end systems, or those on a budget:



Chipset: ATI Radeon 9200se
Manufacturer: Generic
Interface: AGP

Compatibility with soft15khz: All default 15k resolutions work perfectly
Pixel Clock can go < 5mhz: Yes, low resolutions are no problem
Can do Interlacing: Yes
Driver Version: Catalyst driver 6.11
Modelines: None required, defaults work as is

Release Date: 2000-2001?
Still Being Manufacturered: No
Available: Yes, many for sale on eBay
Price: about $20.00

Pros:
* Cheap
* Works perfectly with low resolutions
* Not and Nvidia card, so you can have more than 32 resolutions
* Good card for a low-end setup

Cons:
* 3d performance with PC games and other emulators might be sub-par, this card is pretty dated.

I just put in a sapphire X1950 pro DD3 512MB AGP card in this morning and it works great there is only one model of them made in 512MB by sapphire.

buy one used or there a few hundred new easily.

strongest AGP card your going to get that works with soft15K that I know of.

require's $100.00+ power supply with a 30A+ sustained 12V rail or trio 12V rails combined to work correctly.

plays company of heroes, faces or war. theatre of war, resident evil 4, onimusha 3, battlestations, etc. so it's even great for current pc games up to date and alot are great on 2 player 6 button cabs with trackballs becuase you can set your own control layout.

I just upgraded to a new motherboard and chip and didn't realize that I was going to need a new card since new MB's don't have AGP slots anymore! So I'm on the hunt for a good non-Nvidia PCIE card that's not super expensive and works well with soft15khz.

Based on the compatibility sheet, I'm leaning towards the Radeon x600 since there are no problems with it, and it's only about $30 on eBay. Worth a try at least.
