Best way to apply Ms. Pac stencils to cab??
« on: February 13, 2008, 05:27:11 pm »
Most of us that have obtained our stencils sets for Ms. Pac-man side art will be wanting to learn from the others who will be undertaking the process of applying them. *I'd like to request that members please keep their source info. to themselves.*

I plan on using my stencils when the spring rolls around and will be posting a lot of pics here. But in the meantime, if any other members are planning to do it before then and wish to share their results via pics or simply wish to post any trial and error tips. Please feel free to post here (if Saint don't mind that is).

I haven't even opened mine up yet. If you have opened yours and have any thoughts or feedback to provide....it'd be appreciated. I am really excited to get this going and get the documentation process underway. Pics pics pics..... thanks.....this should be good for everyone to watch and learn from.

I have yet to crack mine open too.  I was hoping to be done by now, but life has a way of getting in the way.

I'm a little nervous about being the first one to give this a try.  I was hoping to let someone else be the guinea pig and learn from them.

I'll post photos and FAQs once I start.

I bet everyone who bought them has that same idea...."let someone else make be the guinea pig."

Back in January, Paul said he had planned an instruction set but I don't know how far he got on it. I think he's probably sick of this project by now. LOL

Eager to see your results my friend.

Well, I sanded and primed the ol' Ms. Pac last weekend.  All she needs now is the stencil and paint job.

Question about the paint colors...

Can anyone give me a good match?  I checked out http://www.oleszakcreative.com/paint.asp, but it only gives paint names from Glidden at Lowe's.  Lowe's no longer carries Glidden and Home Depot doesn't have these color names.  AHHH.

Any help would be great.  I don't have a good looking Ms Pac in my area for color reference.  PMS color?  RGB? CMYK?  Anything would help.

Nevermind... got color codes from www.appolo.com.  Duh.

Right on, Zeno.

I already had puchased the colors and I was going to send you samples so you could take them any where that sells paint for a color match. But I'm glad you found the proper codes.

I am going to take my Ms Pac paint (from HD) to Benjamin Moore so I can get these colors in their new Aura paint line.

This new paint is technologically enhanced.

"What makes the new Benjamin Moore Aura paint so much better? The Aura paint features new paint technology - Benjamin Moore developed and patented a new proprietary resin and colorant system named Colorlock technology. The colorant binds strongly to the paint film making the paint stronger (colorants in other paint technology weakens the paint). The result of this new technology is a richer, more durable paint that covers any color with any color in a maximum of two coats (and often only one coat).

And for those who are environmentally conscious, Aura is environmentally friendly because it features a low volatile organic compounds (voc) content with its waterborne resin and colorants. In fact, much of what drove Benjamin Moore to develop this new technology was a desire to create an environmentally friendly paint technology."

What kind of stencils are they?  Are they cut vinyl?  If so, look here http://www.signindustry.com/installation/articles.php3 for instructions and tips.

Hope it goes well!

I know these stencils didn't come from me, but my stencil application guide still should help you all :)

Go to http://www.oleszakcreative.com and download Stencil Guide.. the link is right below the 'click here' web store graphic.

Thanks PrOk

I loved the quick and easy guide.

I noticed you don't like airless sprayers.  I don't want to spend a small fortune on a compressed air container.  Any suggestions?

I would rather not use a roller either.

Any help would be great.

airless sprayers are the devil :)   Seriously, if you've gone through the expense of buying paint and stencils dont cheap out on the most important part.. Rent a compressor (even a little 5 gallon one) from somewhere and paint it right.  Rollers and airless sprayers will get the job done so to speak, but nowhere near the quality justified given everything else you'll have into it.

5 years ago i'd have sworn oil based up and down.. but that's changed.. Modern latex paints spray nice, have brilliant color and dry very hard.   They have the added benefit of not marking easily..  These days I paint with latex and then put a final coat of a clear waterbased polyurethane over everything.  The only place I still do insist on oil is pure white and deep black.. i've yet to find those two colors that come close to my favorite Rust Oleum satin.

Well, I sanded and primed the ol' Ms. Pac last weekend.  All she needs now is the stencil and paint job.

You don't need the stencil for your base color.

I'm sorry... my small brain can't wrap itself around such clever dry wit.  :notworthy:

Thanks for contributing though.  It is appreciated.
