How to fix the world wide traffic problem
« on: December 04, 2007, 06:10:25 pm »
How about when we test people and they attempt to get a drivers licences we actually test them in a way that matters in to days world?

I was a at a gas station the other day and while i was filling up i watched some lady "attempt" to pull near the pump and watched her "attempt" to do this 4 or 5 times an she still never got it right but finally just got close enough to get the job done. Half of the people driving today have no clue as to what they are doing and have no business driving a bicycle let alone a machine with an engine.

People drive too damn slow and clog up the roads for people who actually have some place to go. Other people who do have some place to go and drive slow are either too busy doing other things while driving or are plain just too afraid to hit the gas. Come on America, help us all get to work and do the things we need to do and get your ass moving.

There is a difference in acting like a maniac while driving and knowing what you're doing while going at a good speed.

Too slow?  Where is tommyland, anyway?  People tend to average well above the speed limit in the real world.  Dangerously so.

hey Tommy, how about leaving for your destination earlier. I don't see a problem with slow drivers... mines with the aggressive have to pass everyone, swerve in and out of traffic, because I'm late for work ---punks---, who if they left earlier would be there on time...

Here in Florida there are a lot of elderly and out-of-towners, mostly Canadian snowbirds who come here to avoid the harsh cold weather and clog up our roads. That's not to say that native Floridians don't drive slowly, but people really do not seem to want to get where they are going in an orderly fashion.

I do drive a little faster then the rest but that's not because I'm in a rush or am dangerous, but i know what I'm doing and know how to drive. I'm talking about the people who are doing everything but driving, as in on the phone, eating breakfast while driving or other things.

Ha!  You should come drive in NYC/Long Island.  Either people are driving like maniacs (it's fun playing "dodge the taxicabs" in Manhattan - seriously, it is fun) or they're incredibly lost and decide to drive extra slow to read the address on each and every house.

I think dodge the guy who does not know what he's doing is worse than dodge the cab, at least the cab has a reason for being there and will eventually start moving with purpose.  ;D

Doesn't bitching about illegal aliens belong in PnR ?

FWIW, the last time I got a ticket in the USA, the cop jogged up to my car and asked "You must be in a hurry -- do you drive that fast in Canada ?" ... to which I deadpanned "Nope ... if I did I would be getting passed by dumptrucks"..

It wasn't a big ticket and I wasn't going particularly fast or driving in an unsafe manner. My response was a joke, but was also true.

The officer had a good chuckle about it and agreed that trying to pigeonhole drivers by country of origin is rather ridiculous.

On the other hand, it is good to see that my master plan of clogging up the route to your office (do you really need an office to cut glass ?) is working like a charm.

Canadians are illegal? When you just mention a fact of people being here does not qualify as a PnR discussion unless you want it to be.

I could have guessed you would respond to a Canadian comment and try to spin it into something else, the fact is Canadians do come here and do contribute to the clogging of roads, and I'm sure your plan of making me late to work is satisfying to you.

I do.

Wait

What ?

Is there a grammatical construct in there somewhere ?

If so, then I probably either agree or disagree.

I'm sure your plan of making me late to work is satisfying to you.

Abso-fracking-lutely.

And it is probably better for business to be late than to be early and chastise your customers about their ignorance regarding pitbulls.

I give you more credit then 90% of the people here for what you said about pit bulls and i knew you felt that way. Way to reason and have an open mind and not let others fool you into thinking the wrong thing.

YAY for you for saying it out loud. Keep it up jeffo, show your heart for all to see.

You think it's easy being the only one willing to stand up for a dog with such a bad rep? I don't put myself into many things with so much passion as i did arguing about pit bulls here and trying to do it online you can take that percentage down even further from any normal situation.

How can i let people go on thinking these absurd things without atleast TRYING to make them see another view?

 That's what it's all about.

Can we get back to the discussion of the people that I have to practically run off the road because I'm running late for work?!?!

Seriously though, I can't tell you how many people I see making turns into the wrong lanes and nearly causing accidents...or yielding when they have the right of way....just dumb!

I live in FL also Tommy and I agree with more testing.  Pick an age, any age to start testing.  It needs to be done.  Where I live there are way too many blue hairs with monster Lincolns and Caddies driving 10-15 mph slower than the sped limit in the left lane.  Alot of the time all you see is blue hair and knuckles.

My Mother-in-Law has updated her license at least 4-5 times via the mail.  She is close to 70 now, very cognitive (even after 4 bouts with Cancer) and very able to drive.  It just cracks us up when she show her license at a restaurant for her signature and its not even a picture from this decade, let alone this Millennium.  She agrees about the testing and plans on going into the DMV the next time the license is up for renewal, plus she was waiting for her hair to grow out more (from above mentioned Cancer.)

Not in Idaho...it seems everyone here wants to drive 20 MPH in a 35 MPH zone...no joshing!  That said,  I grew up in So. Cal where if you drive 80MPH on the freeway people are STILL passing you so I actually sort of don't mind driving slow around here...I have no place pressing to go anyway!

Or we could just have pitbulls sit up front with the driver.  If he cuts someone off it will kill the driver and then take his car.

Hehe yup, I can vouch for that.  Slow drivers are very rarely a problem here, the problem comes from the maniacs going 90-100+, swerving back and forth between lanes, cutting people off and tailgating when there isn't enough room for them to squeeze through.

Old people will always be able to block any laws that will potentially stop them from driving.

Whenever one dies off there are another three to replace them.

When I am too old to change my own diaper, I'll be voting for the guy who doesn't require me to take any driving tests.

Although I’ll need to drive a grandchild with me to the polls because I probably won’t be able to see let alone read the ballot.

You mustn't have felt too bad because you eventually took the car away.  Since my loved ones will really love me they’ll let me keep the car.

If they end up caring as little about what’s left of my dignity as you did with yours, I’ll call the police on those so called loved ones.

Ha, ha, that so funny.

Actually in Italy they use the honking method. Gets them nowhere, but they sure do honk a lot.
