Intro video
« on: October 22, 2007, 09:33:37 pm »
I recently made a new intro video for my mame cabinet.  It is pretty short (6 seconds) -- my last one was way too long, so brevity was a key issue in this video.  Anyway, you can tell me what you think.  It came out a little bit too dark, but I am too lazy to fix it right now.

I used 3Ds Max and Adobe After Affects, if you are curious.

(Obviously, the quality is reduced in the file I uploaded)

Edit for easier viewing.

Really nice ... I don't think it's too dark though, adds to the whole effect if anything.

Yeah, maybe so.  I was trying to balance the level of ambient light against the siren light in order to get the best effect.  It is difficult to tell how it is going to look before rendering it, so I just guessed.  Seeing as it took several hours (I was asleep, so I am not sure exactly how long it took) to render, I wasn't in the mood to try it again.  :•)

Thanks a lot; I am not highly skilled with it either -- I just mess around with the program.

How I'd love to have a custom intro video.  Too bad my skillz in that area are nil.

Nice!  Love the 3-D look of it.  However, I noticed that the text is outside of "title safety" which may mean it may get cut off by a normal arcade or TV monitor.  Was this intentional since you are using a computer monitor?  If that's the case then it should be fine.   ;)

I had also made a "2-D" intro vid.  You can check it out here (once on the page, click on the link to the video): http://linkedmedia.tripod.com/delusionalarcade

Great job though!   :applaud:

When I reduced the video to fit for web use, I changed it to a random, smaller resolution -- this could be what you are refering to.  It normally plays at 800x600.  I am using it on an arcade monitor, and I don't think it is cropping it.  If it is, it hasn't caught my attention yet.  Thanks for the advice though, I hadn't taken that into consideration.

Actually, I thought to post my video after I saw yours.  It is excellent -- nice effects.  ;•)

Looks good. What are you using on your rig to display the intro video? Is it an intro to the computer booting up, or an intro to your Front end? This is something I would love to do, so if you have any tips that would be great.

I just use Mamewah to play the video; however, I have set Mamewah to start up with windows.  So it is sort of an intro to the computer booting up.  ;)

Right now my arcade practically boots straight into mamewah.  I have tried to bypass as much of XP as possible (No icons, no welcome screen, no load screen, no cursor).  And for the brief second that you actually see windows, I have put a background with the text "Loading".

I am pretty happy with how it works.  While Mamewah is a little difficult to master, it has some awesome features.

Flip_Willie & DeLuSioNal29,

Thanks a lot; however, I am nothing more than an amateur.  I just like to mess around with programs.  Actually, the first video I made for my cabinet was just a 3d project that I done for fun.

Just as it is,
Flip Willie
